I can see where Bob is coming from with this...

While I have seen it in the past and just rolled my eyes at it, it did feel like asking the person why they would bump there own thread. We post our work for others to see and eventually they filter on down the line and get forgotten. I have no issues with thread owners replying to the comments or questions made that bump a thread, we all get busy and can't always respond right away, but I just don't see the point in bumping it just to get it back to the top for more people to see it. At that point you may as well be a forum sponsor as you're clearly just using it for advertisement of your biz. If the topic is that important that people need to see it, ask the mods to make it a sticky.

    Just my $.02

So much drama on the interwebs......

But I agree with Bob, just be moral in your dealings with others. Not that hard.

I do not know who it is but I have seen many example of detailing personalities do similar acts of blatant self-promotion it does not seem unusual for internet marketing. They cannot be shamed into behaving a certain way. A smart one will just ignore rather get dragged into a discussion,

I will say I was curious since I did look through some posts to see how may have done this, I am sure there are some that has friends that would freely help boost their friend through thread bumping.

I've always been VERY upfront about my on-line presence... it is driven by the need to stay on top of new product/tool development and advertising. If along the way I pick up a buddy here and there and can help someone out that is just icing on the cake. I feel that if anyone on these boards that post their work says they are not doing this for advertisement (to some degree) is a bit disingenuous.

So if I bump a thread it's not because I feel the content is so important that it need to be at the top of the list, simply letting potential customers know I am still here. Honestly, I think my customers need me more than I need them so; bumping my threads really provides a service to those that may be looking for a proper detail. I don't need a dime that I make from detailing. I do it to keep me out of trouble so it's not like if you see a thread bump from me I am looking for world detailing domination...lol

In closing, if you see me bump an old thread and it rubs you the wrong way, please refer to the below, keep calm and carry on

I am not sure I see a major failure of internet etiquette in bumping your own thread. In this age of attention span of 10 msecs some blow by threads and once in a while a bump can help IF I was in the business of making money to promote my businesss or pumping my ego. You can always add you were in the service for extra points.

It does not do any real harm and not really misrepresenting anything if the post reasonably represents the work. You see these people in life all the time.the internet is no exception.

It shows everyone a "Weaksauce mindset" unless you are adding certain current info such as the car won a trophy was on TV or in a mag or possibly answering a certain question. Having a buddy bump the thread was done because the person KNOWS it looks questionable............................. how folks cannot see this is a mystery of the ages to me and those who think it's not hurting anyone are fooled, look inward as you know it's wrong.

Bob: I agree with much of the "Internet morals" you have elected to unwaveringly police the detailing/ car enthusiast sites for but on this one we will just have to differ...

One thing we can agree on is that Starting fake accounts to bump ones own threads is pathetic....

On another forum I suspect one detailer has created a second ID to pretend he is asking question and giving kudos (god's gift to the world) to the original poster for all his work.

    It is the internet.
