I was contacted by a client asking for me to just tidy up his 2001 Silver AMG Convertible. He said he does not want me to "waste my time" polishing his car, but I will be doing a thorough decon with clay, tar removal, etc. and afterwards I will be EITHER doing an AIO, or just an LSP. What would you recommend? I have Collinite 845, 915 and 476, I was thinking of just doing 2 coats of 915. Then I got to thinking, what about an AIO? It would take basically just as long to do as applying two coats of 915. But I do not have any AIO products... If you were in my situation, what would you do? Drop the coin on new fun products to use that MAY improve results (the car does honestly look fairly decent, even under sunlight except for actual repaint needed in some spots), or just simply stick with what you have and know that will look good and be easy?
yup....... get it in, get it out. You could put turtle wax Ice on it and he would not care. Which is fine........
I agree on the 845, cheap, looks good, and will last. And its silver, it will look just as good no matter what you use.
Yup, i use 845 also on light color vehicles, white is a awesome color to apply it on with the paint popping.
Will you be using a polisher to apply an LSP? if you want an AIO, get Duragloss 501 or Werkstatt Prime Strong.
If you are will ing to spend the time to apply two coats of your LSP, I'd do this ^ , apply a coat of Werkstat Prime Strong as it'll add some gloss and a base layer of sealant. Put one coat of 845 on top. WPS applied via DA will remove some light swirls as well.
If you have it or can get it locally, I'd probably turn to DG105 or 501 for an AIO, applied by hand, or 915
DG501 will clean and shine up silver real nice, then top with 845 or 915. Customer will be very happy.
Another vote for 845 here. If he thinks you`re `wasting time`polishing the car, he obviously doesn't care THAT much about it. So just slap on a great looking wax that will last.
Well, I basically agree with him. I am certain that there are all kinds ow swirls, scratches, marring, etc hidden in that paint, but I saw it in direct sunlight and it really didn't appear that bad, so in a sense. because he is not after "perfection" and is on a budget and the interior is HAMMERED!!! we both agreed, in that sense, it really is a waste to polish the exterior. I was just thinking of doing an AIO to add a little more pop, but am still unsure, I kind of want to, just because I do not want to just clay and wax it, I want to see what I can do for him. Does anyone have experience with 2001 silver AMG paint? Would an AIO even do a good job on it? I guess I truly am wasting my breath though, and I should go with my gut and what all of you are saying and just put a good LS, and hopefully he will appreciate my work on the interior and later on decide to get the car corrected, lol!
owned 4 different mercs in my time. blue, dark gray, 2 silvers. oldest silver 2007 but all the paints dont get much help with just an aio. too hard. i would get sonax nano cleanser then 845 collinite myself
Thanks, Dave! So, it is confirmed...not going to be doing any polishing to this thing, unless my clay or something mars it, which if it is that hard of paint, and I use fine grade clay, I highly doubt it will mar it. And thanks everyone else for helping confirm my original plan also! I will keep you updated, hopefully all goes well and he is happy!
