My homebrew project

Was too busy today to test out the sheeting and beading but I am going to test batch 4/5/6 all tomorrow. I have a black 2010 Camaro SS in for a paint correction and will be using #6 as the LSP!

Comparison testing tonight. My home brew batch #10 VS Swissvax Onyx. So far everything from application to cure time and sheeting/beading are the same, if not better, then SV Onyx. Samples will be out next week to who ever is interested!!!



Tomorrow I will be testing my home brew, SV Onyx and AutoGlym HD on the hood of my daily drivers.

What jars do you guys like best?

1) Tin Deep Container 8oz w/ Clear Top Cover

My favorites are #2 and #3. I ordered 1 of each to see them in person to figure out which one my final formula will go in.



I also ordered some AWESOME new ingredients to test out.

Silk Peptide, Polysorbate 60, Lanette, Glycol Stearate, Dimethicone, Cetyl Alcohol, Titanium Dioxide, PolyQuat-10LR & Castor oil.

Silk Peptide is a highly purified grade of natural silk power, processed in such a way as to retain the original physical structure and chemical composition of silk. It's naturally reflective, hydrophobic and will leave an amazing slickness to the paint.

Glycol Stearate is the ingredient used to produce incredible pearlescent effects in paint. Using it in the wax will leave a pealescent hue to the paint work.

Dimethicone is more commonly know as Silicone oil. It make spreading the wax much easier and add a slickness to the paint once applied. It is formed from silica (sand and quartz silicas) which will not only create an immaculate shine but provide much more protection then an average wax.

PolyQuat-10LR has many benefits. First, it causes the product to be drawn to damaged areas, for enhanced performance. Second, it creates a better bond for extended performance. Third, it offers glide, silkiness, and anti-static properties

Titanium dioxide is the most widely used white pigment because of its brightness and very high light refractive index, in which it is surpassed only by a few other materials in the world. Not only will it create a great shine and outstanding gloss but it also greatly helps in protection against harmful pollutants and acids that could get on your vehicle.

Also what fragrant do you think would work best? The wax is going to be orange so I was thinking either mango, pineapple, orange,orange + vanilla, any others?

No contest container 4. Shorter and wider is much better for getting an applicator in it and the clear one will show off that beautiful color of the wax. #4 for sure. I LOVE container 4, sent that one to Modded!

Love this project i want to make my own wax so bad. Im gonna PM you more about where you read about what each ingredient does.

PS. i have some good waxes to test your formula against including Celeste dettaglio v2, Zymol Glasur, Zymol Carbon and some dodo samples.

Smell wise: I think something natural smelling, something that isnt super strong. Like a subtle fruity orange coconut smell....yea. lol

This thread is awesome. Very inspired to see you take the initiative and drive to make a quality paste wax to your own personal standards. If you have samples available, I'd be happy to purchase one!

I wonder how thick the plastic is on those jars. I've had a few waxes in PET jars before, and I'm honestly not a fan of the material for paste wax containers - PET usually has quite a bit of flex, making the container seem a little cheap. I would think that a polystyrene or polycarbonate jar would have a better feel - Dodo Juice use polycarbonate, I believe - though I've not found retail sellers for polycarbonate jars yet.

 

I've ordered once of each of those 4 to see how I like them. I have 20 glass jars now and they are nice but I want something shorter and wider.

 

I like number 4 for sure! Will keep an eye on which one you choose.

Been busy lately so I haven't had as much time to tweak things. I've had the wax on the hood of my truck for almost a week now and it has been washed 5 times, still holding up well but the beading and sheeting isn't lasting quite as nicely as I wanted. It definitely outlasted the Swissvax Onyx as I expected and so far its pretty much the same as the Autoglym HD.

I tweaked the formula a bit, adding in a different oil and taking out another. Also changed around the wax ratios some, I upped the Carnauba content to 30 grams, up from 26.5g, added in a new ingredient that will remain a secret, it was quite the pita to get a hold in in small quantities. I also tested out a new solvent that works very well and I've added a nice scent to it, Cranberry Orange.

Here is a video of two coats applied to the cap. Sheeting and beading properties are great and it is much more hydrophobic than before! I still need to cut down curing time though right now it is between 10-15 minutes.

This is after two weeks, 5 washes, daily driven in the rain with the salt all over the roads and sitting outside 24/7. Still beading nicely, sheeting is great and still has a great gloss, slickness isn't as great but as with most waxes that is the first thing to fade. SV onyx is all but gone and AutoGlym HD is still holding nicely with a slightly tighter beading pattern than mine.

Best thing is I'm on formula 14, this was with #5 and #6!
