I woke up today and had about an hour or so to do something I have been waiting to do since I corrected the hood on my winter DD (my truck).

I have a few waxes I wanted to test so I have an idea as to what I can expect for customers vehicles when it comes to performance. Almost all of the waxes are at a different price point. Also this will allow me to figure out which waxes I want to use in the spring when my car and my dads car come back out.

Waxes up for Review (sorted by price):

Wax - Price (Source of price) Manufacturer Durability Claim

    CG's XXX - 18.45 (CG's Site) 2-3 Months
    Pete's 53 Black Pearl - 39.99 (CG/Autogeek)
Pinnacle Liquid Souveran Wax - 39.99 (Autogeek) 4 Months
Dodo Juice Banana Armour - 69.99 (Autogeek)
Dodo Juice Orange Crush - 69.99 (Autogeek)
Ammo Creme Reflective Paste - 70 (Ammonyc)

I mention it in the video but I'll put it here as well.

    Prep Work:
Car rinsed with warm water to remove any snow/ice on the paint
There was no wax on the hood currently and had been clayed about a month ago
Washed the hood with UWW+ then dried the hood
Did an Eraser wipedown on the entire hood
Taped off the hood then went to work

All waxes were applied per manufacturers instructions

    Disclaimer
It was around 30 degrees out when I did this and the paint was cold. These waxes may apply/remove differently when it's not so cold out. I am just documenting my opinions and my experiences with these waxes. Take this with a grain of salt.

    Ease of Application:
    1. Liquid Souveran (Not really fair since it's liquid)
    2.Ammo
    3.Pete's 53
    4.XXX
    5.DJ OC
6.DJ BA (I expected this due to it being the hardest wax I was testing)

    Beading:
    1.DJ BA
    2.Pete's 53
    3.XXX
    4.DJ OC
    5.Ammo
    6.Liquid Souveran

    Sheeting:
    1.XXX
    2.DJ OC
    3.Pete's 53
    4.DJ BA
    5.Liquid Souveran
    6.Ammo

    Slickness:
    1.XXX/DJ BA
    2.DJ OC
    4.Pete's 53/Ammo
    6.Liquid Souveran

    Favorite Smells:
    1.Ammo (Cinnamon)
2.DJ BA (Banana but wasn't very strong out of small pot)
    3.Pete's 53 (Coconut)
4.XXX (Fruity? Very hard to explain)
5.DJ OC (Orange-ish very little scent compared to others)
    6.Liquid Souveran (Awful/Chemical Smell)

    Durability:
    TBD

I will be watching these waxes over the next several weeks through a Michigan winter to see how they all hold up. There is no sealant under them so it's just about the waxes now. The truck will be driven every day, inside overnight and outside all day. I will be updating this once a week.

looks like a fun review! CG XXX looks like its worth picking up!

I was very impressed with CG XXX. It's very cheap for how hydrophobic it is. If the durability claim is close to realistic it's a steal for the money. It's extremely cheap over on Detailersclub.com if you have a membership.

Always a great read these wax tests! Thanks for sharing!

I'm interested to see if you noticed any difference in looks between them all?

I see we are think alike, I too decided to do a little test, but I did BFWD, CG's Jet seal and Dodo's Banana Armour. I know, weird combo but I have my reasons!

It was hard to tell on the smaller panels like that. I personally think Ammo provides a warmth that none of the others even compare to. But like I said the panels are relatively small so it was difficult to tell. Ammo is my go to show wax.

Thanks man, i'm looking forward to seeing how these all hold up as well. It will be between the DJ's and the CG Waxes IMO.

Nice, I'd put my money on the durability test showing something like
    1. BFWD
    2. Jet Seal
    3. BA

The BA should provide a better look than the others though. What I like is that BFWD will got a lot further than Jetseal will and Jetseal recommends two coats where as bfwd recommends one.

    Update:

After 1 week of being out in the crappy cold/snowy weather we have been having I wanted to see if anything had changed. From here on out I will test every week but only post results when I see things changing.

I washed the hood with UWW+ then dried it before any tests were done. Befores on the left side and through a week on the right side.

There will be another update today or tomorrow. Wanted to wait another 3 weeks before I tested them again and actually posted about it. Week 2 was the same as week 1.

A little late on this thread but that XXX sheeting is amazing! Will be watching for further updates. :)

Daniel Shook Any Rag Vehicle Washer

Went and did some more testing so here's an update.

Washed with UWW+ because it claims not to effect lsp. Sadly I didn't get any good pictures due to it being so crappy outside and I don't have doors on my pole barn.

The beading abilities of all of these waxes are gone. . . I will admit in a month this truck has seen a TON of salt on the roads, it's been under 6" of snow for 8-10 hours at a time, it's seen 60 degree sun and rain that ended up freezing.

There are some sheeting abilities left from Dodo BA but pinnacle is completely gone. Ammo seems to be nearly 100% gone. XXX and Pete's have held up about the same which is less than either of the Dodo's.

As of right now I'd post durability at:
    1. DJ BA
    2. DJ OC
3/4. Pete's/XXX (They were literally sheeting the exact same and neither had any beading)
    5. Ammo
    6. Pinnacle Liquid Souveran

I'll continue to test sheeting every couple weeks. This weather/salt apparently just ruins this kind of stuff.

Wonder how Collonite 476s, 915 and 845 would hold up in those weather conditions. I use 476s and 845 for the winter in NY, but have never did a sheeting and beading test to see how they hold up.

  16. Daniel Shook

Daniel Shook Any Rag Vehicle Washer

I would bet 845 would hold up better than these. 845 doesn't provide the look of high end wax IMO but it does provide ridiculous amounts of protection.

Great info here. Thanks for the test. I were planning to get DJ BA but curious if it would be weak next to others as mainstream DJ waxes looked very boutique. I guess it isn't a bad idea to have BA and XXX at the same time. BA for a month, then XXX for another. :).

One question, is XXX anyhow different than Poorboys NAtty's waxes?

  18. Daniel Shook

Daniel Shook Any Rag Vehicle Washer

No problem man. I plan on updating it to see if anything is left but it's just rainy day after rainy day after snow after ice, etc, etc. . .

I liked BA BUT you can get better waxes for less money IMO. XXX is so cheap, it's a steal. If you are looking for a great wax in the $40~ dollar range look into Cloud 9 which was made by a guy on this forum (have tested it and it looks amazing) or Zymol Carbon. Both very good options and I would buy bother before any DJ wax I've tried so far.
