If you keep your ratio to 65% solvents 35% solid wax content, you'll be fine.

A few boutique wax manufacturers are using D60 solvent too. This is pretty much odorless mineral spirits.

    Good luck in your endeavors!

Keeping a eye on this as it seems like it will get interesting soon. I have dabbled in wax making and it was fun when I was doing it and frustrating at the same time. Best of luck with your formulations!

I kinda wanna make my own wax now lol.

Ive seen a few wax jars say that they contain mineral spirits actually.

It's harder then it looks lol. I have a lot of time search for materials, researching the best possible formulas, trying to get the most out of each ingredients and what will work together and what wont. Also going to be A LOT of trial and error.

I'm going to try and stay with natural solvents for the most part unless I have too, I don't like the idea of having to use mineral spirits or anything along those lines but we will see, I know a lot of wax manufacturers use it so it really shouldn't be a problem

I've been toying with home brewing too lately and wanted to stick to strictly natural solvents. The issue with them is that natural solvents don't "flash" quickly they are meant to last in nature for years. You got a lot of natural oils I'm interested in experimenting with, I have to place am order for more soon.

Just out of curiosity, what are your intentions?

Are you just having fun, or are you trying to make an actual marketable wax somewhere down the line?

I would love to just have fun with this stuff, but it would be VERY cool to actually formulate a wax that will be produced and sold!

What are your ultimate goals with the wax? Something with longevity, shine, easy to use...?

Yeah I've been doing some reading and I'm trying to find a good odorless solvent, D60 would be awesome but I can only find it in huge amounts.

I'm making something that will be sold. Been talking to some retailers that are very interested and I'm getting help from some very well known wax manufacturers.

Im looking for something that will last in the elements, look amazing and is easy to use! Trying to get my hands on some liquid PTFE as I type this.......

Tested batch #3 today, left a very slick, glossy finish, went on alright but still took way too long to cure. My paraffin wax came into which will help soften the wax some as well as make it easier to apply. I'm going to wait until the rest of my stuff comes in later this week to make any more.

Hard to test beading and sheeting on the bike, the next batches will be tested on my truck!

Tested out batch #4. Finally got it nice and soft, texture was very much like Swissvax Onyx. It went on very easily and cured within 10 minutes in 35 degree weather. Sorry for the low quality cell phone pictures, I will have some better ones in the sun tomorrow as well as a beading/sheeting test!
