What do you offer as an upsell? I understand having a few different options for LSP, but what else, if anything, do you also upsell? IE, would you use Lexol as a standard leather cleaner, but offer an upsell to Leather Master/Leatherique, etc? Even if not necessarily dirty, but maybe as a "better" conditioner? how about other things? What about maybe using Meguiars as a standard full-range product line, and offering an upsell to a "better" line-up, such as Auto-Finesse? I am just throwing around the idea of taking my show on the road finally, and deciding what my business plan, product choice and pricing will be. Thank you for any help offered!
I prefer pricing accordingly. Buy others charge extra for coatings like Opti-Coat since they cost much much more than traditional LSP. So say OC is $60; it is common to have a mark up of 50-100%; thus charge $90-120.
Upsell coatings, such as Hard Body or OC, instead of a cheaper sealant or wax. Upsell sealing windows, fabric protectant on carpets/cloth seats. Instead of upselling a leather product to just a more expensive "nicer" product, sell the use of a conditioner period, instead of cleaning alone. And use a quality product to do it. To be honest, people don't really care about the products you use, they just want it to work. "Nicer" products are really for us to use as we please and to our discretion. You might have some more boutique products on standby that you want to use on a more expensive car to yield better results and just more pleasant for you to use. The owner probably isn't going to be interested in "well I usually use this product, but since you have a nice car and if you want to pay a little extra, I can use this". These are just suggestions from my experience, take from it what you will. Everybody has their own way of doing things, you just gotta find what will work for you and your clients. Best of luck!
I have stand pricing for most things I do. When it comes to products use what ever works best for that car.
Yeah, I just have services and don't really upsell anything, besides adding Opti-Coating, but even then I only add the cost of the material + my hourly rate * how long extra it will take over a traditional sealant. Then again, I base everything off of my hourly rate basically
I can see upselling a coating like OC or nano coatings. It's going to cut down how often you see those customers and the coatings are more expensive. I've seen some detailers upsell any interior work other than a wipe down and vacuum while others will include it regardless. I think it really depends on what you think your customers will be willing to pay for and how comfortable you are upselling
That's pretty much what I do. I mean I'll upsell a second coat of wax/sealant, sealing windows, wheels, etc. But generally I've got my standard "packages" and I just stick with what does the job best. As far as the products I use...it really depends on the package selected by the owner. Generally the type of car correlates with the package--i.e. I've never had a minivan owner go for a full interior detail or exterior detail. Usually they just stick with my most basic packages. I mean if someone brought me a Honda Odyssey and told me to go all out with my most expensive package, naturally I would, but that's never happened before.
