Hey guys, I was just wondering I bought a tube of Autosol to try to polish my exhaust but before that I tested it on my ipod and found that its actually scratching the back of my ipod other than polishing out the scratches, heres a picutre: DSC_0322.jpg Right side is polished with autosol, Left side I didnt do anything to it.

Autosol has lots of uses really, but using on your ipod and exhaust are 2 different compositions. Autosol is a metal polish and designed as such,
you don't have to exert much pressure when using, just let the product break down and let it work for you.

So would it be making these scratches still if I used it on my exhausts? Yeah I was using really mild pressure, just working it in back and forth.

I would say it shouldn't providing the metal is'nt of a soft nature like aluminium, which Autosol also produces a product for such.

What type of rag did you use to apply the polish?

I was using a microfiber cloth to apply and wipe off.

Oh I see, it says that my exhausts are also made of stainless steel(HKS Hi-Power) so I guess I should get that instead of something like Mother's Mag and Alu polish?

Mother's Mag & Aluminum Polish is harsh. Take a look at what Phil has to offer: Metal Polishes. For that matter ask Phil and others here for their opinion too. HKS is not an inexpensive exhaust system and personally I would use a higher-end polish.

Well the exhausts aren't in that great of a condition and I've heard so many good things about Mother's Mag and Aluminum Polish so I was thinking about giving that a try. Maybe I'll give the Optimum Metal Polish a try, would that be mild enough for the exhausts?

Why not try the Autosol you already have on an inconspicuous place of your exhaust? Mother's M & M is aggressive so if your exhaust has seen better days then it might be the ticket to clean it up. I've not used, but I've read good things about Optimum Metal Polish. Here's a video review of the Optimum Metal Polish: Ferrari exhaust.
