i did 2 newer bmw a 550 and a z4 recently...both had very hard clears ...i shorter work time with 85rd using a blue finishing pad and a griots 6 inch vs say using the same combo on a softer honda paint. is this normal? is there a better polish for finishing on hard ceramic clears
What year Z4? Up to 2008 I know they were not ceramic clear coats. After that I'm pretty sure they are still not. I use Optimum and Wolfgang polishes on mine with good results. Polish II or WG TSR. The 550 is a ceramic cc unless its older.
Polishing time should be excellent with 85rd regardless of the clear. I can't think of any reason why there would be a significant difference in play time between clears. I think the question is, were you happy with the results? If you were able to achieve the finish you were looking for, the time it takes to acquire it is a mute point.
Perhaps you could try Menzerna 106FA which has a little more cut than PO85RD but finishes the same with Gloss of 5 if you are looking for a little more clarity power? I use both all the time and they are pretty hard to beat. Do German paints more than any other here, and they always finish fabuloso. Dan F
