I Only Have A 6" Griots Polisher. What To Do About Tight Areas While Compounding?!?!

Okay so here is my conundrum. I'm just getting into "real" detailing and will be tackling my BMW 4.8IS X5 this weekend, to make matters worse it's Sapphire Black. I have a good beginners collection of tools and products, however my only polisher is a 6" Griots. If your not familiar with the 4.8IS model it has various small body panels that would be idea for the 3" polisher, if I had one. If you search the intrawebz you can see pictures of the various panels on the front and rear that would benefit from having a smaller tool. Unfortunately I won't be able to add one to the stable for a few more months. You would think all the crap I've ordered from Detailers Domain over the last few months that I would have gotten in the discounted price of the 3" polisher.

Maybe I'm just being anal but from all the write-ups I've been reading it looks like most folks utilize the smaller units for the tight spaces.

Does anyone have recommendations on how to best utilize my 6" in the tight areas? Should I only prep the pad in the center in effect having 2-3'" of product to work in that space?

I might be able to source a smaller backing plate locally but then I would need additional pads to fit, so that might not be an option with such little time between now and the weekend

I knew I should have added this to my order over the weekend!! I just wasn't sure if that was the best approach, so I held off.

Any good way to utilize my 6" for those small areas as it stands?

I think for this weekend I'll run with what I have, but I'll order the smaller backing plate and pads next month when I tackle my 3 series. That would benefit even more from the smaller unit.
