I have been asked before about those california car dusters, and other similar items and i have always personally just said no, dont use it. but i was wondering on your thoughts, obviously it WILL cause scratches if it catches serious dirt, but i drive a silverado i dont really care THAT much about, and keep a good few layers of wax on it at all times, but it just gets so dusty living in los angeles!

Do you think it would be too killer on my paint to use one of these? I just want my truck to look clean more often than it does but don;t want to go through all the ONR and everything more than once a week really.

    What are your thoughts?

Just say no. The only way I would use one is if I had a car collection and my vehicle sat and collected dust. Dust will not marr like dirt will.

Ever seen a pollen grain close up? It's a nasty ball of spikes! Don't use a duster. If you must, use a blower or better yet a quick rinse with deionized water. No drying needed.

This. Deionized water is your best bet. Wax has microscopic pores on it, and the barbs on pollen catch onto the pores and hook the pollen in there. This is one of the main reasons I prefer sealants during pollen season.

You are a prime candidate for Optimum Opti-Coat 2.0 or similar product. It goes on leaving your corrected-to-the-max-paint beautiful, protects the paint for years, and applying waxes, sealants to it will not be needed, as nothing sticks to it that well. Perhaps even the dust conditions you describe will be lessened - certainly your work applying stuff to it will be done..

The best Calif Dusters in ideal conditions will have to have some negative effect on paint with a wax, sealant on them, and it may well too have a negative effect on Opti-Coated paint, but you can probably be happy knowing that your paint is under the Opti-Coat and not getting directly damaged any longer..

And what you decide to do to dust, clean, etc., your truck ,may be a lot easier to do with a product like this.

    Good luck with this !

I understand and agree, however I just haven't been able to get around to doing anything like this.

Honestly, I am more looking toward just getting rid of the damn thing, I hate it and have fallen in love with the new Imprezas. Besides, I just passed my one year anniversary with it, that is the longest I have owned a vehicle. LOL!

But honestly, I WANT a car I want to care for and be obsessive about, and that is how I was with my last Impreza. I am looking to get out of this truck ASAP.

Thank you all for all the help!

It is really not that hard to do. I just did 2 of my vehicles at home - both Silver. The results were stunning.
There are Detailers down there that have used Opti-Coat, etc., already I imagine..
You can always keep using a Calif Duster or whatever you want to use until you get tired of seeing any scratches it might put in the paint, and then fix them and go on...
I know all about these Dusters, having bought my first one from the old Beverly Hills Automotive place in 1970... Wow, a long time ago, now that I think about it ! :)

I am with you, I use sealants during the fall through the winter........... Ungodly amount of pollen around here.
