In one of my alternate identities I've worked in ornamental horticulture, mostly on the design and consulting end, but I've done my share of hose dragging too. When asked I usually recommend the 5/8" or 3/4" Gilmore 8-ply Flexogen hoses. They are not impossible to kink but it is difficult and they can take a huge amount of abuse. The heavy black rubber hoses are good too but they weigh substantially more than the Gilmores and you notice it if you are dragging hose frequently or in long runs. In very wet/humid environments like coastal Maine the outer jacket of the Gilmores can mildew but it doesn't affect functionality. It drier climates like Michigan or Minnesota it is non-issue.
I have a never kink from Lowes and I really like kit. I've had one for a few years and it's still holding up well. I just picked up another for the back yard.
those of you who are using the black rubber hoses (especially the craftsman one) don't you find that they bleed black residue onto your hands/clothes etc? I've had this experience with several of the craftsman ones and it's as big a pain as the hose kinking
I haven't noticed it from the goodyear one that I use. I have been using it for a couple of years now.
I've had that happen but not with all black rubber hoses. The other issue is that they can really heat up in fill sun. All hoses do this to a degree if left in full sun and not flowing but the black ones can sometimes heat the stored water in the hose to unpleasantly high temps.
