What's up folks . . . . just was wondering when you folks are contacted by a potential client, how do you folks go about selling correction jobs even if it's just a 1 stepper vs a basic detail service?

Anything specific you folks do or say or do you only offer them correction or what?

    Thanks

I have a few photos on my iPad that I scroll though to show them the difference... If that fails, beat them with said iPad until they demand a paint correction

Clearly it's about educating them in the differences with physical proof. Pictures, examples, and how safely leveling the surface clearly makes the difference.

Good info. By the way that's funny as hell too.

That's very true. Don't get me wrong now . . . . i've done corrective work in the past and would like to do more of it. I had a lady contact me and wanted a detail (nothing fancy) a black honda element 2010 and mentioned it had never been waxed before. Now i would hate to just slap wax on the car after it being exposed to the Hawaii weather for nearly 3 years with nothing so i would in my head thing a good one step would be adequit for this situation.

I do need to see the car but i'm pretty sure i can already paint the picture as it sits out doors LoL

Education, and explaining the features and benefits, Correction is a "luxury service" and nobody "needs" it, you have to get them to want it..........

its that simple, also it depends on the market you work in, and the level of clients you service. I offer it, but I hardly do it, most people who have cars, even high end cars in Fresno they are Daily drivers and they could care less, they just want it clean. But I have had a few that understand it, and want it.

A properly maintained car, inside and out retains and can actually increase value at the time of resale, that is a proven fact.

Fresno huh? How is it out there? I'm really considering relocating to california to continue doing it. Correction work is what i really like to do. I don't get the same satisfaction from just a basic detail as you would from a correction. The transformation is awesome!

You say nobody needs it but it is like prep right? So would you feel confortable slapping wax on a car that's say 5-6+ years old after say just washing and claying it?

I guess at least a paint cleaner would be good.

Ive met two people who even know the term paint correction........... Fresno is not the place to be expecting to make a living doing detailing. I do this on the side when I have time which is rare, and when I do its mostly minor polishing if that. This area is swamped with 5.00 tunnel washes. If it was not for the other stuff im involved in Id be living in a van down by the river.

as for you saying " You say nobody needs it but it is like prep right? So would you feel confortable slapping wax on a car that's say 5-6+ years old after say just washing and claying it?"

yes, that is what people here want, in fact many dont even know what a clay bar is, or what it does, so I spend alot of my time explaining basics, which is fine.

I would say 80% of my work that I do is mostly Decon, wash, clay and some sort of LSP, and those who ask for it Ill do correction, but again my time is worth more then what they are probably willing to spend...... if you are willing to pay me ill do it, but im not going to sit there and harp on them and say you are doing it wrong without correcting your car.

If i can make $200.00 doing the basics then im happy.

That is very true as well. I have to agree with you LoL. I know sometimes i sell myself short which is bad but it happens. I personally just hate waxing and it not being smooth you know . . . . silky smooth. Smothering wax on a clean yet dry surface in my head sucks but maybe it's just me.

what is funny is i see people in my neighbor hood slather on the turtle wax Ice and the car is tunnel washed 10 minutes prior, can you imagine how much grime gets mixed in with the product after a 5 minute drive home, but they don't care, its shined up and looks good to them.

People here have a talent and eye for detail that the average person just doesnt understand.

Here's how I explain it in a simple manner that everyone can understand. I don't describe it this way to everyone, just to people who I think need Layman's terms.

Picture your reflection on a puddle or body of water. When it's flat, the image is glossy and crystal clear. When ripples are added to the surface, the reflection is distorted. Similarly, this is what scratches do to the reflection off of paint, and by removing the scratches aka ripples, the surface can be restored to a wet, clear, reflective surface for maximum shine. I can wax the car, but the distortion caused by the scratches will always be there.

I don't "sell" corrections - we earned the reputation we have in our city and its surroundings from producing the results we have for years. YEARS. People basically find us because of the name we have made correcting other people's work as well as being the very first person to touch a lot of owner's "baby".

If you run into a situation with a car like that, you need to simple pair a firm pad with an AIO and go nuts. Choose something that will leave you with mechanical and chemical cleaning combo and top with whatever you want. On cars that see NOTHING, this is going to be an insanely nice difference. And it literally only takes 30min to 2 hours depending on what you want to do.

Like Kilo said, paint correction isn't needed( though realistically, swirls create more refractory energy hitting the coating from a myriad of unlimited angles thus accelerating "exposure") but really only wanted and blah blah blah customers don't see swirls yackety schmackety unless they are nuts like real detailers are.

You have some good points in there. I guess sell is true but maybe a incorrect term as well. More so explain to them that they would benefit from it. Do you folks have a website . . . . if so perhaps you could PM me the address just to check out. Do you folks also primarily do corrections of some sort or more so basic details?

AIO's are nice to provide some form of light correction, cleaning and protecting. I do have Optimum Poli Seal but wasn't all that pleased with the fact that it gums up but perhaps i'll try it again.

I've never had to sell a correction service whenever I've done a detail before. I've done a small handful of less than corrections to new customers, many paint correction customers come back for a 1/2 step after a few months.

Did they already have an idea of what correction was? I've seen some of the vehicles that you've done and i remember the vehicles receiving correction.

100% of my clients are taken from forums/internet, and I'd say maybe 80% of my details are paint corrections, realistically speaking. I'm only a hobbyist detailer as well, keep in mind.

Luckily I no longer need to sell correction as that is what I am sought out for BUT, when I was selling correction I would simply explain reflection vs. refraction and how this concept applies to vehicle paint appearance.
