Once upon a time, a young man who cleans cars decided he would "call out" other detailers. In his comment, he states that using Sunlight or Dawn (dish soaps) is cutting corners. It's being cheap to use a product that isn't made specifically to degrease paint.

I laughed HARD when I read that one. What a joke! wow.

Elitism at it's finest. Saw that too, there's a difference between saying "used an auto-specific Citrus degreaser" vs. I laugh at anyone who doesn't do it my way.

Really? You saw it too?! How? Are you on the same local forum I am on? Or did he post it on another forum as well?

Pretty sure it's on Autopia if it's the same one. It's an excellent job, it's just the unnecessary broad spectrum insults that bother me.

hey, if you want to waste time and money using all sorts of boutique products that dawn can probably strip off in one foaming application; on a car you are going to correct....... have at it, ill cut "corners" and save time and money.

Not yet. Only if things go sour.

    My thoughts exactly.

Some people get so caught up in the "products" and not the actual act, that its almost comical......................

I think I use more Dawn than anything unless I am doing a maintenance wash, and someone is going to tell me I should be pre soaking with degreaser, then foaming, then 2bm wash? when a single step with dawn saves me 30 minutes to 45 minutes, and yes, even after foaming I use dawn in my 2 bucket wash, been doing it this way for 15 years, sometimes ill add some Zeps. If the end result is the same who cares....... how is using dawn cutting corners?

if you ask me its maximizing profits as well as economy of motion.

sidenote: if you like to use all the above products to decon a car, that is fine, there is ABSOLUTELY nothing wrong with it. I realize the extra steps is part of what makes detailing fun, but honestly in 120 degree weather I just want to be done and done; and if its a DD SUV or Midsize sedan why waste the extra time and money, save that for the more fun cars, again this is just my opinion.

It could just be a language barrier, but his write up (and one of his others) came off being a little arrogant to me. I also dislike when people list overpriced boutique products in their thread title as if it gives it more credibility because they dropped a lot of coin on a product....

    THANK YOU............
Some people might get butt hurt, but yeah I am with you 100% on that

Using X product does not make your detail any better then the next guys, and honestly X vs. Y, if the results are the same who cares.

You going to tell me because I used Meguiar's detail line instead of Swissvax or whatever; that the detail results are less then if I used Swissvax? Not debating if its bad product I am simply stating the most obvious product that one might get a hard on over.

I think yes, there is a inherent different when it comes to LSPs but outside of that its all the same.
