    Hi Guys,

I am a happy "hobby detailer" taking pretty good care of my cars. At one point a few years ago I decided to get a Flex 3401 which i have been using with mostly blue and yellow 3M pads (and the respective polish) on my black Cayenne for some time. Been getting GREAT results, and even cut out some ugly scratches.

Now i just switched to a black Beemer (Saphire Black). When I got the car home and under decent sunlight, it was apparent that it has a LOT of very tiny scratches that needed work. Most seems like they would be easy to Polish out if they were on my old Cayenne. I tried a bit with the old combo, but no result. Didnt even look like I had done any work.. so I ponied up for some Green 3M pads and the Fast Cut III compound. After using 2 hours on the door just I still have not managed to get even close to the result I was expecting. All the scratches are still there, but perhaps just slightly "rounded" from my work.

Should I give up trying to cut with the dual action polisher, or is the Beemer coat just that damn hard??????

    Thanks!!

Bimmer coat is just that hard! I have a Monaco Blue Sedan and used the Megs MF Correction System (D300/M105) with Finishing polish. I achieved about an 80% correction off that kit and combo.

Jet black or any alternative black Bimmer I will NEVER buy. It's a hassle.

Great to know :) I dont mind working long and hard to get it done, since I am doing just my own cars.. so if its just hard as hell, I can still manage :)

My advice would not be to give up. I would invest the time in reading the immense wisdom of Kevin Brown (here: http://www.buffdaddy.com/kevinbrownmethod), perhaps no one who understands more about paint correction than him, in mine and many others' opinions.

I think a lot of people would agree your flex is a fine machine. But, I would look into trying Surbuf pads, and Meguiar's Microfiber cutting discs. (both can be found here: www.detailersdomain.com) <--- also the administrator of this fine forum, so please support him.

If you could try some Meguiar's M105 and D300 I think you'd find success with those. I have had tremendous success with the Surbuf and M105 on hard ceramic clearcoats like BMW and Mercedes and Audi use. But, don't think if you have the right products you're completely set, the difference between 80% and 95%+ correction is the application. methods. This is where it will save you much time and frustration if you read the KBM.

prime pads with product, clean them diligently and frequently, and use water spritzing.

    Hope you will succeed!

I just got a Jet Black BMW too and thought I wasn't doing it right when I used a yelllow pad on my PC7424. I used Danase Swirl Abolisher III (their most aggressive) and I only got 60-80% corrections on the car. Will need to read up on the KBM to get the rest of the car back to new.
