Is this pad toast?

Can anyone tell me if this pad is burned or something? That ring has a stiffer texture than the rest of the pad, and if you look closely you can see the little balls that are responsible for it. Those gray spheres are what feel hard, if that makes any sense. Almost looks like a ring of rash.

New pad only used once on soft Nissan paint, and the other older green polishing pad that I used on the same detail is perfectly fine. Was used with Flex 3401 and Power Finish.

Did I ruin it? Is it safe to use? If not, any way to save it, or just toss it and be safe? Any way to prevent this from happening in the future? One time use for a pad is kinda costly!

    Thanks!

Have you washed the product out of it?

Yes, pad was washed. Other pads used on the job came out looking like new.

Did it go in the dryer?

Use a pad brush on it, should be fine.

No, hand washed with 1z W99 in a bucket of hot water, and then left to air dry.

I just thought of something though. I did a major correction on one of the headlights with this pad. (Headlight was wet sanded and then brought back to clarity with this pad). Could that cause something like this? Those bumps feel almost like burnt plastic

If the bumps feel like burnt plastic stuck to the pad, use a pad cutting tool. It has like a grater on one side to shave foam pads.

I will have to source one of those then. Thanks for the tip!

Pad is still good. I would switch to Dawn Power Dissolver. Works much better cleaning pads, will take that right out! Doesn't harm the adhesive on the backing either.
