Pad/polish

Wanna try some new pad (5.5")polish combo's with my 7424. I've been partial to the LC-CCS and Menzerna polishes. 2 step correction with vehicles who's paint is not that bad-mostly light wash swirls-can I hear some feed back? As always thanks guys

 

Try OPT Optimum Microfiber Pads or SurBuf with your choice of polish, or perhaps try Megs M105

 

Id be willing to bet togwt's suggestion is A++

That being said, I'd consider the Meguiar's MF cutting discs and D300, it cuts like 105 but finishes like Menzerna SIP on a griots DA for, if there's any deep rids left spot hit them with surbuf and M101 or M105 the just polish it out with a LC tang or über orange with Menzerna Power Finish

I would try the OPT micro fiber pads. I just tried the Meg's today and it failed after 1 hood and 1 roof. Good thing they come with 2 in the pack.

 

I would suggest switching Meguiar's cutting discs a half a panel at a time. Heat on an orbital or DA transfers up and heats up the pads. By switching them out as you polish and or compound it keeps the heat low. We clean them with forced air to keep the build up down. We use some Surbuf pads and I recomend changing them as you go. Especially when compounding at the higher levals.

 

Good info. I was cleaning via air compressor, but I wasn't switching the pads up. I'll try that next time.

 

I have not had any heating issues with the megs MF at all on a griots DA, and I only clean them out with a pad brush on speed 1 after each panel. Same with Surbuf.

Don't know what to tell you, but that's just my experience. I'm running speed 5 on the griots occasionally bump to 6 for a few passes.

 

I was only running at speed 4.5 on the Griots doing 3 slow passes with moderate pressure followed up with 2-3 passes with the machine weight for pressure. 2' x 2' area. Then a break while I went over the same area (after a wipe down), with an Uber green with PO106FA. So it should have had time to cool down.

Here's a picture of the failure, jut happened last night. Could I be using too much pressure? And yes, I'm careful while removing the pad. Only grabbing at the back where it meets up with the backing plate.

 

At that speed with only three passes that should not have happened. It looks like a bad or deffective glue job. I would contact who you purchased it from and see if they will replace it. A pad that is overheated will usualy separate in the middle first. That is where the heat is most intense. They did have some glue issues. If they do not replace it send an email with pictures to Meguiar's, I think they will take care of you.

I've had a few Meguiars pads suffer the same fate, as well as an Optimum pad. I'm using them with the Flex and PC. But my separation came while on the PC.

 

Were you able to get a warranty replacement?

 

The Flex is a direct drive. That might be the reason for not heating up your pads. I will need to look into that for my shop. That could possibly save us money that would offset the price of the machine.
