some advice for polish - after 205

What are popular choices for superfine polish or glazes for after the application of 205? I've been using 205 to finish but want something a bit finer. Would a glaze be the appropriate term?

A glaze is a filler. Not an abrasive. From what I've been told since I asked for this very info a few weeks ago, the Meg's will finish down perfect if you switch up the pad. Use it with a black or blue pad and you should get a nice finish. I don't like using glazes because they just mask "unfinished" work.

Ahh. Thanks for the quick response. I am using the 205 with a black or blue pad with good results. I was just wondering if there was anything I could do further to improve the sheen in terms of polish.

Thanks for clearing up what a glaze is. I've never used glazes before. Reading your description, I don't think I will be.

Would a glaze be sort of like a wax though? Or do you still wax or seal the paint after the application of a glaze?

A glaze will not last more than a couple of washes if that. Alway's use a wax/sealant as a LSP if you must use a glaze. If you have dark colored paint, Menzerna SF4500 is a real good finishing (jeweling) polish .

Use menzerna 85rd it works really well, i usually use it on a blue light polish pad or a red lsp pad and it leaves a really nice finish.

It might be worth giving Prima Amigo a try. I know it has some chemical paint cleaning action and I think it may contain some very fine abrasives. Part of the problem is that there is no fixed definition of glaze. A few glazes appear to have some small degree of mechanical action (abrasives) and some have chemical cleaners while others do not. The amount of filling also varies from product to product. As Legacy99 noted generally you would want to use a wax or sealant on top of a glaze but again not all glazes are alike. While most glazes seem to work well with most waxes (I suspect the amount of solvent carriers in some, Collinite 845 for example, may be a problem for some, perhaps most, glazes) it doesn't necessarily follow that they also get along well with most sealants. A number of the new nano sealants and coatings require a really pristine clean paint surface for solid bonding. Even with less exotic sealants I think there is at least the potential for bonding issues to potentially reduce the durability of the the sealant. That said, I've used both Prima Amigo and CG EZ-Creme Glaze II under sealants like BFWD without any obvious problems.

I think 911Fanatic, mike aesthetica and Phil (and probably several others) can bring far more experience and expertise to this question than I possess so hopefully they'll address any mistakes I've made.

Menz 85rd or try Wolf's Chemicals WP-1N Ultra-Fine Finishing Polish. Use black pad again then try a red pad if you want to try to coax even more gloss. I liked using the Optimum Finish for jewelling also until my 80% full quart bottle of it seperated on me. (I've had 3 bottles of Optimum polishes seperate on me. Not going to buy them anymore unless its something special)

I like using the Wolf's WP-1N more and more each time I use it. The Sonus SFX-3 is extremely fine polish also, but haven't used it in years.

Thanks for all the recommendations. I'll do some research on all the products you guys have listed. I don't really plan on using glazes but I wouldn't mind experimenting with them. I got a small sample of the CG EZ Creme to try out. I'll see for myself if it works well for masking imperfections. Do I let it dry and wipe off? Or should I wipe before it dries.

I'll definitely give it sealant or wax after the glaze application.

85RD is the way to go, it leaves a shines like no other. Then top it with PL or 845 and call it a day.

    Menzerna SF4500 vs 85RD?

isn't SF4500 the new name for 85RD? The new names confuse me with those.

    Whats the difference between:

    "SF 4500 - SuperFinish PO85RD" and "SF 4000 - SuperFinish PO106FA"

I have some PO106FA that I really like but I read more on here about the 85RD

If you're going to use a sealant to protect the paint, then I strongly suggest you use DG 501 with a white pad to clean the paint. Use enough product and you will be amazed at how it makes the paint clarity get defined. Top that with DG 105 or Colli 845 (or both) FTW.

Yes the new names are confusing but they are much more simple than the way it was!

Optimum Finishing Polish is also a good choice.

SF4000 has a little more cut than SF4500. Use SF4500 as a finishing polish (jeweling) on darker paint.
