Can this or will this end the clay bar - the NanoSkin AutoScrub

I like this product. I don't think it will completely replace clay bars, but it is a good option especially for large flat panels. Just like a clay bar this product can mar or haze super soft paint.

I've used Prima Slick, Prima Hydro, Adam's Waterless Wash, ONR, Adam's Detail Spray, Menzerna Paint Refresh.

To me the pad almost looks like the pad on a ping pong paddle.

 

Erik, to answer that, we have the 3 inch pad that has an hand applicator in the kit. To get in the tight spots. But yes the clay might be needed in tighter areas.

 

A few of you guys on here recommended I try these for removing some minor paint overspray I found on my car....has anyone had any luck with these? or have results that prove confidence in their ability? I need to find something that will remove those little specs of paint that only I will ever be able to see haha.

Hands down this product blows away clay............I haven't touched a clay bar in over 60 days, between both the SSPT and the Autoscrub pads 6" and 3"...there is no need for clay.

I have been testing this new product for Nanoskin over the last few months, and you guys will be pleased to know that it will be soon available in 2 grades like clay.

I recently did a demo for Line-X using the Medium Grade Autoscrub Pad and they were blown away at its effectiveness!

It will be available in a "Fine Grade" which will be interfaced with a blue foam, and it will be available in a "Medium Grade" which will be interfaced with a Orange/Red foam. This way pro detailers and users will have that color recognition factor associating the grade of the pad by the color of the foam like clay.

Also soon to be available will be a foam palm backing plate that will fasten with velcro around your hand. This will attach to the Autoscrub pad so that it may also be used by hand or the d/a if one chooses to. For those that have used the Speedy Surface Prep Towel, this Fine Grade Autoscrub pad will be 15% less aggressive than that.

Here is a job I did last week using the new "Fine Grade" pad, of course it was a beta pad, but it rocked....Aboslutely no marring at all, speed 2.5 on my PCXP using Nanoskin Glide as my lubricant. Using the Glide and Shock is the only way to get the best overall performance and longevity from these products.









This new "Fine Grade" pad is perfect for new and black car prep, with no fear of marring. Others have tried and used other clay lubes that I have read, but take my advice this proprietary system was designed around the Nanoskin Autoscrub liquids.

 

I have also used this product for a couple of months now, both the pad and 2* blocks. I started using the pad with DA but now I prefer to strip off the pad's velcro and use it by hand. Much quicker and precise 'claying' imo. The biggest advantages is speed (depends on your system and how you see it), but the biggest drawback imo is you cant re-mold into a new clean surface. It is also less forgiving than traditional clay when your surface has loose dirt or when you use the wrong pressure. On extremely neglected paintwork (overspray etc), I can ruin the clay pad with just 1 to 2 cars. For car with average condition, I can probably get 50 uses out of it (before i deem unfit to use further). There are pros and cons so depending on your game plan, some will benefit more than others.

How do I know whether the 'clay' pad is ruin? TBH, I am not very sure, but for me, I use visual cue which is when the surface starts to turn from grey to a little brownish. Even though the pad will still work as it is, but it is alot easier to inflict marring and scratches (bad cue I know but how else?). Certainly an excellent addition to my arsenal when I consider the speed imo, but I dont think I will use a used pad on a premium job.

So it can do at least 50 cars, so about a dollar per car.

The thought of not having to mold clay, trying to hold onto it on vertical panels, folding and refolding, and cursing up a storm everytime I drop it... yeah yeah I know, call me lazy but claying is probably the least enjoyable part of the detailing process for me. It used to be drying, but not anymore due to the master blaster. I'm sure I'll still need a couple bars of clay lying around for tight spots, fins, vents, under side mirrors, etc etc. (might try the 3" kit next) but overall if this works, saves time and money, since clay isn't exactly cheap.

 

Bob ... how would you break it in? Using on glass for a few times and then on paint?

Phil I saw this @ SEMA in the Nanoskin booth with John Kleven, they took us outside and demonstrated it on a chalky LV City work truck and it took off all the fallout/oxidation etc....... so they gave me one to try and I did on a couple of cars and one of them a Black Ferrari 360 I did recently.......................made the finish "Not so good", took alot of compounding to correct this issue.

Post haste I talked with John again and his guys noticed the same shortcomings and tried to knock down the scrubbig power by using it on the glass or a countertop, then the marring issue was greatly reduced but the powerful decon ablitity was still intact. Soft painted cars though will have tremendous marring so the speed has to be kept low on the machine.

 

Wow, looks like I'll pick it up too. Bob are you using this now?

 

^^That's my worry. All the reviews I've seen on youtube, are almost all on light colored cars, typically trucks too. To me it sounds like a good choice for deconing heavily used vehicles with hard paint. Granted I'll still probably pick one up and try it out, because claying does take a long time and can still mar. We shall see

Kinda scared to use the DA with this at first so I'll probably grap the 3 inch kit... Will this be fine? Or should I grab the 6 inch pad too and stop being a whimp lol

I would grab the 6" kit and start using it by hand if your worried. Then you can always move up to using it with a DA when you feel comfortable.
