    Hello everyone

As my boat has been out of the water for the winter for some time now I have begun to think about my spring detail. Last year I used Menzerna Superfinish and it seemed to cut the oxidation pretty well on my small bow rider. This year I have to do my parents boat and it's much larger. I'm thinking I might try the DA system to cut the oxidation however many people are telling me wool is the way to go for time purposes.

Anybody use any products that they have liked on gel coat on boats? I've tried M105 but it's a bit too abrassive for the Gel coat.:thumb:

Compound is pretty much the same however I was hoping to see if anybody had a good pad and compound combo that they have used.

Meguiar's One Step Compound is an advanced aggressive, yet safe polishing compound that cleans and restores gloss on all gel coat surface in one easy step. It removes moderate-heavy oxidation, scratches, stains and tough water spots on all fibreglass and painted gel coat marine or RV surfaces. I've been told that a lot of the Meguiars marine line is just relabeled car products that cost more. Gel coat's really hard so I'm surprised that 105 is giving you trouble :shead:

Gelcoat is a be-otch! I know, I did a 9 year old Ski Natique last year. You need wool pads, rotary and some Shurbuff compound. This is what the boat guys use to get boats looking new again. I too started out with the "gentle" approach, boat laughed at me! Screw that, I was born on Saturday, but not last Saturday. I called the Ski Nautique dealer and talked to their service manager, he set me straight.

Good luck and take some breaks, drink plenty of gatorade and you'll be fine.

    Excellent!

I didn't even think of Surbuff.

I'll have to try that. Yeah the gentle approach worked well on my lightly oxidized now rider but the 45 footer is heavily oxidized and the polyester gel coat resin is tough to cut!

Try the DA system on the boat, as it might work for you. It's been a long time since I have work on gel coat, but I used 3M perfect-it line of compounds and polishes with foam pads on the PC.
