inspired by both a thread on another board where two guys mixed up some swissvax products and the description of the new CG Lava wax as being loaded with fillers I grabbed a bunch of my old products and poured them together and heated it up on the stove. I mixed in a bit of Souveran, glasure, Victoriawax chaos, coli 845, wolfgang dgps, black fire dgps, surf city garage barrier reef and then some Wet Glaze 2.0, some obsessive detail wet shine glaze, some vanilla moose glaze and then spritzed a bit of blackfire deep gloss spray and some CG V7. Heated them till everything solid melted and then let cool. Ended up with a gross colored mess but I love the end result on the car. It goes on smooth and thin, I let it sit for about 20 minutes till it passes the finger drag test and then it wipes off easily. The finish doesn't feel as slick as a sealant, more of a carnuba feel. Unfortunately, even though it is science 101 to document all the steps of an experiment I don't have a clue how much of each I added or even if I forgot something that I added to the mix. But it was fun. the mess: the result:
the mix does look about as nasty as it could and doesn't smell like anything good either. that's why I was surprised at the result. As it was cooling I dabbed a paper towel in it and tried some on the dishwasher and it worked pretty well so I was hopeful. Now I guess I'll have to wait and see if the fillers are just on the surface and won't last long or if it will hold up for awhile. I've cleaned the paint up the best I can but there are still a fair amount of defects and there just isn't enough paint left to continue correcting. I've read on forums for these cars where people had to have the yellow ones repainted after 4 years or so because it just didn't hold up. We are at over 10 years so I'm pretty happy that I can get it looking this good. That's why the description of the CG Lava wax as being loaded with fillers got me thinking about mixing some glazes with a scoop from each of other waxes I don't use much anymore and then throw in a bit of some long lasting ones. In the container it smells mostly like Coli 845 but as I apply it the WG DGPS smell comes out. Figured it was the lazy mans version of ordering a bunch of raw ingredients
I did that with with shampoos. I mixed Chemical Guts Glossworkz Maxi Suds Optimum Car Soap Meguiars Gold Class Blackfire shampoo Poorboy's Super Slick & Suds Dodo Juice Born to Be Mild Meguiars Ultimate Wash & Wax Prima Mystique & Meguiars NXT shampoo. The mix smells great washes great and leaves a great shine behind.
How's it work? The gross creation I made actually held up pretty well. I got a bottle of DG Aquawax and just had to try it so I can't say how my original creation will hold up for any longer since it has AW on top of it. But it seemed to keep the fillers in place. Usually after a couple weeks the paint starts looking a bit tired again and it hadn't even before I put the AW on it
It is actually still beading water and looks just as good as the panel next to it with two coats of AGHD, my truck sets in the sun and rain and now pollen of NC. It has a nice shine, but my paint is almost swirl free.
