Ford Mustang Shows Audi R8, Ferrari California and BMW M3 who's the Boss at Hockenheim - Carscoop

While not uncommon, it’s not actually often that we hear about American sports cars beating European models on their home turf. Case in point, the Ford Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca that was featured in the latest issue of German car magazine Sport Auto.

Sport Auto editor Christian Gebhard took the track-orientated Mustang special over to the Hockenheim circuit for a fast lap recording a best time of 1:13.2, which puts it behind the likes of the BMW M5 F10 (1:12.9) but in front of the Audi R8 4.2 FSI (1:13.4), Aston Martin DBS (1:13.5) and Ferrari California (1:13.5).
The German publication also tested the Mustang Boss 302 Laguna Seca's braking performance with the muscle car coming to a complete stop from 100km/h (62mph) and 200km/h (124mph) in 33.3 meters (109.3 ft) and 124.6 meters (408.7 ft) respectively.

These numbers beat the new Porsche 911 Carrera S 991 fitted with the optional PCCB (Porsche Ceramic Composite Brakes). Pretty impressive stuff indeed. Introduced last year, the Mustang Boss 302 is powered by a 5.0-liter V8 delivering 440 horsepower (443PS) and 380 lb-ft (515Nm) of torque, while the Laguna Seca is a more track orientated version adding more body stiffness, a stronger chassis and aerodynamic parts from Ford Racing's Boss 302R.

In the States, the regular Mustang Boss 302 has an MSRP of $41,105 (€31,800), while the Laguna Seca package increases the price to $48,100 (€37,200). The Audi R8 starts at $114,200 (€88,200).

Wow that is very impressive, especially when most people think American cars are only good in a straight line. Way to go Ford.

    Ok fine:

Hookers are awesome at sex... yet I would never marry one.

    As for the price comparison, why does one car costs 45k and the others 100k, among many reasons;

In all seriousness that is an incredible time, very cool to see American car companies putting effort into chassis opposed to just engines!

Supposedly there was a Shelby Super Snake they are making with 1000hp...

Im a fan of both German and Domestic engineering when it comes to performance, dollar for dollar its amazing to see what companies can achieve. I would buy the new mustang in a heart beat, but it would be after a GT-R. I am an AWD fanatic, but the numbers are fantastic and the fact it is coming from Ford all the better. But when you compare the cars as they sit versus performance Value the snob factor kicks in.....

It is good too see Ford (like DSMS said) put money into chassis, because we all know a dyno versus a track are not one in the same. Brute HP will never triumph over highly tuned underpinnings and AWD.......

As I get older I look at things like interior, comfort and quality of the hides of leather.... like the horrible leather in my GMC sierra, its on par with the fake leather in my wifes Jetta.... compared to her IS350 she used to have its night and day.

For me its now about the entire package as a whole.

    Now I feel better...................................LOL

The 13 GT500 with 650 hp and 600 ft of tq is a detuned 1000hp motor, know this for a fact. The 13 gt500 is going to opens a can of whip ass on the market!

Hey, I get what your saying my brother-in-law has a 10 M3 and my bud a 10 911, sure they are both more luxurious and refined, but I will tell you this my GT500 still rides as nice as the day I bought it and has never been in the shop, can't say the same for my BIL's M3. My BIL almost shit his pants when I took him for a ride.

Its impressive that the American cars can run with the imports now, but if you drive the Ford hard enough to keep up with the Pcar regularly, it'll be off to the scrap heap as it will be falling apart. Ten years from now the Porsche will still be running those numbers. Thats why it costs more. Plain and simple. I'm with Kilo, for me it's about the whole package. My Passat W8 is almost ten years old but it has every conceivable option, handles well and sees the high side of 100mph every week. It also has 110,000 miles on it.

Totally relate with you you posted. I also look at the entire package. Also had a new IS350, super nice, beautiful interior and materials, but raspy sounding engine, and too twitchy at high speeds. Could not ever get in tune with the Nav system either. The Mark Levinson stereo system was pretty good. Traded it in a little over a year later; no regrets.

In the end, when I pull up to the W, who's going to be looking at the Mustang vs. me pulling up in my R8 with Tubi exhaust? No one...

And let's be honest: that's what it's all about - street cred.

Buying decorative hood and fender vents to make the R8 go faster. Maybe flame stickers if he's feeling real ballsy.

8yrs to go.............will keep you posted.

Had a 84 Ford Bronco (tow vehicle for 10 sec race car) for 18 yrs, things went but axles, transfer case, motor and tranny were never touched and ran strong till the day we sold it, 84 Lincoln Town Car sold with 150,000 miles and 99 Crown Vic P71 that I had for work; took a beating and never broke. Reluctantly gave that car in with 125,000 and it is still in service.
