It only takes one time to get hooked. That gateway product use eventually leads to experimenting with other products and methods. Substance abuse runs rampant and you buy more and more. Friends, family, and your neighbors start to take notice of your habits. You remain loyal to your suppliers (DD, Autowerkes, etc). It can affect personal relationships. ("No dear, my mf towels CANNOT go in the same load as the bathroom towels"). Then you end up spending the night in the dog house (er...garage). Soon you can't afford any more product. Then you hit rock bottom and start working for free product. You go through withdrawals (winter). Your friends insist you take your car through the automated wash or gas station wash. You start polishing and things around the house; but you are never completely satisfied. You've cleaned yourself up quite a bit, but you realize your car is not. And the cycle continues.
I couldn't agree more. There are days that i myself even think i should be committed to an institution. Its only getting worse. In the spring I am going to be cleaning Phil's gutters and mowing his lawn for Wolf's products and MF towels. My name is Joe.....and I have a problem.
Sad but true! I'm worried that when I get out of school and start working full time, I'll be spending alot more on supplies. Money that I should probably be putting in savings or paying off loans.
No kidding. My wife won't be happy to see I just placed another hundred dollar order with Phil; especially when I have many other financial obligations. What went from wanting a couple products lead me to drop a Franklin.
I think what really drives that is the free shipping deals which often require us to spend at least $99. ^^^
I was the same way for awhile lol Had to try everything new, had to have what everyone else had, had to always be cleaning. Quick fix for me was buying gallons worth of the products I TRULY needed and liked. Regards from a recovering addict...living the modest life. Chas
I can quit at anytime, Really I can. I just need to use up the last of my _____ and the finish the bottle of _________. I want to make sure my car is perfect one last time. Then I will not buy anymore supplies and will quit cold turkey. Maybe I should call Dr. Drew @ the PRC. In actuality, I find detailing and washing cars relaxing and rewarding.
I promise I will take DD, Meguiar's and few other supplier numbers out of my contact list. Maybe I leave the numbers there in case someone needs to buy something or needs advice.
This is what I see an intervention sounding like: WHAT ARE YOU ALL TALKING ABOUT!?! I do not have a problem with detailing! Has decontaminating ever gotten me in trouble with the law? NO! So maybe I like to sniff carnauba every once in a while! Theres nothing wrong about that! And since when has heating a little polish up with my Flex every been an issue? HUH?!? Yeah, so what my mom never understood why Im always rearranging my products. I like to keep shit clean! You afraid that when the glaze is gone I'll be turning tricks on the street for an ounce of Dodo Juice? You just wait! Soon you'll be seeing me in bright halogen lights handing out samples of Permanon for everyone to enjoy! They'll keep coming back for more! I need to take my adderall :
These are great, great, comments !!!! I for one, actually grew up doing this with my Dad and my Grandfather who always had nice cars and wanted them to stay that way. Back when working in my Dad's gas station, you pumped the gas, washed all the windows, checked everything under the hood, checked the tires, and still had time before the pump clicked off at $2.00 for 7-3/4 gal. of Regular Exxon Gas. We always had the cleanest shiniest, cars and perfectly manicured yards in the neighborhood too. I learned a lot of skills with all the tools, and wish I had a boy to pass these things on to, but instead, had a couple of awesome girls - who by the way, insist that their cars, yards, etc., are perfectly nice at all times ! I feel sorry for their husbands who are not as car-inclined, but have learned a great deal. It's in your blood/genes, etc., or it isn't, but it can but acquired... Cars, Trucks, etc.. they are GREAT !!!!!!!!!!!!! Dan F
The VW bug bite me and ( BANG BANG! ) turn me into the DetailingMan ( spider-man alike story ) with all the knowledge I gain from forums and testing out products, I saved many people's rides and made them happy car owner. I feel good about what I do and I enjoy it, so I don't see anything wrong wit it....
You start with a Kranzle. Then its the PTG. Not the really good one, that comes later. Then its the German made wet/dry vac. Polishers? We'll need 4....for starters. (2 are Griots because one will always break ) We'll need that steamer as well - its only $3500 on sale. Microfibres - only the best will do and we'll need hundreds of them! Pads? 4 of each colour from every manufacturer please. Don't get me started on the detailing line of the month. That Kranzle you bought was ok to start with, but now you'll need a 3000psi, 4gpm built in electric unit like mine with trigger switched on off and remote power. Oh, and racking. We'll need lots of racking to put all our stuff on. But it has to match so buy lots now to accomodate our growing collection. Now we'll have to insulate and heat the garage as there is no way in hell we're moving all this inside during the winter. Well, if we're not moving anything, we'll want the garage to look great so we'll need to redo the floor and lights; we'll need lots of lighting!! You see, realistically, you have no idea what you have stepped in! I've been doing this for 20 years and I'm still buying stuff. Mawahahahahaha!!!!!
What the heck does sample cart mean? Stuff you send to customers? Did you ever get to use up that MSUG?
Just all the stuff that I don't use on a daily basis and single bottles I use for testing. Its easier to keep it all in one place. If it's soap, it's long gone.
