I purchased a Nikon D3100 last year around this time and i took a few pictures with the standard lense it comes with (18-55mm). I just recently downloaded Gimp2.0 and i would like to make a lense purchase or too. So i was hoping to have some insight on a good photography forum to join to ask questions and learn. Thanks in advance, Bryan
Whatever you do, don't join "The Photography Forum" I joined and quit within a weak because of the attitude of most of the members. What kind of things are you looking to shoot, maybe we can help you out in choosing a lens here. I just bought myself a Canon T2i (550D)to replace my FujiFilm Fine Pix 9500 and it comes with an 18-55 as well. I also went ahead and bought myself a 50mm f1.8 lens since I'm going to be shooting lots of cars, in good lighting at relatively close range. I'm also considering getting the 75-300mm f/4.0-5.6 III USM as my "zoom" lens. You're gonna see, if you pick up photography as a hobby, it can cost almost as much if not more than detailing!
Im looking to shoot pictures of cars and also would like a zoom lense for sports and action shots.i am torn between a 35mm Nikon lense and 50mm.i want a f/1.4 but I saw good reviews for the f/1.8.as far as a zoom lense I like the nikon 70-300mm f/4.5-5.6 VR.last but not lease I'd like to have a fisheye lense for car photography and I was looking at a 8mm and 10.5mm So if anyone can tell me the pros and cons for the 35 and 50mm and the 8mm and 10.5mm and suggest anything else that would be similar in price.
B.Prug, try dpreview.com and adorama.com. Adorama has very good video's also. A quick call to adorama and you soon find out they know what there talking about and they don't push you into buying something! dpreview is highly technical and they take great lengths in there reviews! Hope that helps!
I use dpreview for a lot of information im Looking for forums to ask questions and point me in the right direction.
If you want to shoot anything with speed, you have to make sure you have a fast lens (focus speed here) Long range zooms are not the best idea for shooting high speed either, you're gonna get a lot of shake even with quality lenses that have integrated stability. Medium range might be better. The 50mm is a wide angle, but I can't speak for it's speed as I haven't tried it yet (I'm refering to Canon products BTw, I have no idea about Nikon).
I'm a Nikon guy too and I like Nikonians. Nominal charge/year, but very good site. For cameras and lenses my favorite place is Roberts in Indianapolis. I've bought most of my gear from them and they have great CS. HTH
