I'm sure we've all see the Paul Dalton video or other detailers apply wax by spreading it by palms and fingers.

    Is there any benefit?

not many..i do that on somesofter waxes.it just helps on not wasting a lot of wax that you would lose using a wax pad.

What! you never wanted caress a expensive in between your fingers and apply it to a Ferrari....

Any who I've heard it helps evaporate the oils in waxes and catalyze the curing process but it's more of a novelty part of detailing then anything else..

I think using my ass would be more practical, its softer versus my hands that are sort of rough from yard work and various other chores. LOL

It might lint more than your hands though. :applause2:

It's funny, I just applied Glasur and used a small pad for the first time instead of my bare hand and it seemed so much easier to use with a small foam applicator. When I was done I just stuffed the applicator inside the container and thought to myself that the hand application method was overrated.

Lol.... how is it overrated there's like 3 guys out of a million that do it and no one ever talks about it.

I would give it a go if I had an expensive ride and a high end carnauba to play with. Check out Marc Elsworth applying Crystal Rock ;)

Perhaps pushing the wax deeper into the spores of paintwork? Did it once with collinite, lol, and there is a difference if you rub the wax between your hand first compared to simply slapping it on with hand. Anyway I would rather use an applicator or da..

Might be a bit more accurate in tight spaces but my hands are too rough to even try.

I agree I have so much callouses on my finger tips and hands from the gym and years of guitar, I wouldn't even attempt this. But from the looks of it, it seems like applying wax by hand actually uses alot more wax than using an applicator? I may be wrong, but from the video I got that impression.

That RS is a sick little car.......... one of my favorite colors on a car.

Only technical reason I can see for hand waxing is it warms the wax which makes it obviously more fluid which is a good thing, gets in the pours etc........

@ 4:00 did he hand apply the "tyre" dressing or was just a very dirty applicator that rubbed off on his hands

I think it is a heat thing that makes the wax easier to spread over a larger area. I think that using the DA and a wax pad accomplishes the same thing as far as heat.

I saw the Paul Dalton vid a while back where he claims that he has to rub the product into his hands to change it from an enzyme into a wax, apparently the air acts as a catalyst! I haven't laughed so hard since the first time I saw 'The Jerk'

The only reason I could see using your hands is if it was a porous surface. When cleaning leather I can see using your hands.
    This Paul Dalton fella..............

Too much product wasted IMO, but it's good advertising. A few have even contacted me, just to ask if I deliver a "Hand Application" of a carnauba wax.

Although quite a few people on different forums will grab any chance of ditching these "hype-methods", we can all thank the guys behind these videos, for making a lot of customers understand that taking care of your car is not just taking care of your car. Many customers think that they just waxed the car, when they selected the "+ wax" in the local automatic car wash.

IMO Paul Dalton is the perfect example of "all publicity is good publicity" - everyone is talking about the poor guy :) Haters love hating him, and as long as his name is mentioned anywhere on the net, google will pick up yet another hit. There's a reason why he can charge quite a bit more than most people.

So, keep hating - He'll probably be very happy!

    Kind regards,

    Ebbe
