Hey everyone. I'm a little frustrated with the ceramic clear coat on the audi. I take very good care of my car. As I was polishing i was extremely happy with the d300 set on speed 3.5 with the flex da. Made very quick work of all the fine scratches and water spots. However, as i was working the d301 i noticed that it left behind a ton of micro marring (possibly the micro marring that the d300 left behind). Im frustrated because the d301 set on speed 3.5 as well with a little faster arm movement did not do the job. I do have menzerna products but the reason i switched to maguiars was bc i was impatient with have the menzerna finish down. I have sip an ip and p85rd. But I was wondering if i was doing something wrong with the d301 or is the audi clear coat just too tough for it to handle. Please help. If i have to finish down with menzerna i will, but I dont want to feel as though i wasted my money. The audi is black btw. I didnt even do an IPA because i knew it would just be worse. So i left the protection of the d301 on the car. I wanted to prep the audi for aquartz for the winter, but i dont want to move ahead if i cant figure this out. Thanks for all the help
D301 is more like a glaze, I never used it before. but I usually follow D300 with Meg 205, Menz 106a, or 85 rd depending on paint.
Just for reference what color is the Q5? Brilliant black is my guess(errr whatever the non metallic black is called) If you are experiencing hazing, like Overtimedetailer mentioned, you probably should switch to another polish for this car. In extreme cases, something of a diminishing abrasive nature(301 is non diminishing as is D300, M205) might be needed to completely refine the surface.
2 options here, switch to a regular DA or use another finishing polish I noticed on my black lexus when using the Flex 3401 and D301 hazing and micro scratches were left. I switched over to Menzerna finishing polish and my Griots DA and got alot better results. Black is a bitch anyone here will tell you that.
From what I've read you are not the first person to have issues with the MF system in conjunction with the Flex. I would suggest to the OP to try it with the PC.
I was going to say the same as you guys brilliant black...ugh switch up to D300 and a PC at speed 5 should get it done.
Buy a rotary, and buff it old school. Audi, bmw, ect almost never see a DA unless its to finish with. I let wool do the levelling and leave the light stuff for a DA
Have you worked on Brilliant Black Audi 2009 - present? Its very easy to mar, yet hard to correct. IME
Is this the black you speak of? http://www.detailingbliss.com/forum/show-shine/29981-bryansbestwax-vs-black-audi-s4.htm
this is great stuff thanks guys. The car is a 2010 brilliant black car. I cant do rotary im too much of a novice, but not exactly an amature either. I just borrowed back my old porter cable that i gave to my girlfriends father. Im gonna use it with the d301, if not ill switch back to the flex and use menzerna products. Ill see if i can post pictures tomorrow afternoon. Since the finish has already seen d300 ill use the least aggressive method first. I think a black pad with p85rd. Ill work back from their. Tangerine pad with IP.. I'll let you know how it goes. Thanks again everyone
Agree with Brian there, but even if u go the d300+mf route for correction (which would take ages), I think finishing it with something like po85rd on a rotary would be your best bet, from my experience with hard Mercedes and BMW paints. Hope that helps. Cheers, BSTP
