She claims she got splashed by some fresh tar on her new 11 Jetta, she had a car wash clay bar and wax and says they told her there isnt much they can do that the tar stained the paint. I havent been able to look at it yet, I offered to compound and polish it but she claims the car wash says the clear is stained. I have never heard of this, Ive had tar on paint and used some stoners tarminator and a polish and all was good. Has anyone experienced this before? Maybe sitting in the sun for too long? Im probably going to give it a shot anyway, just wanted to hear some opinions/experience on this.
i never once seen tar stain the paint..if it is stained and for some reason it doesnt come out with polishing then it could of been something else on the paint.
Yeah thats what Im figuring, so far I havent been able to see it but a car wash/detailer did and he said stained, figured it sounded a little funny. Hoping for the best.
probablly a corner hand wash car wash with a young kid who couldn't get it out and figured "if I can't do it, no one can" lol Easy fix: degrease -> tar remover -> clay bar -> buff/polish -> happy friend In the worst case, the "Fresh tar" was still hot and slightly burned the paint, causing it to slightly yellow, but again, this would buff out.
I had a Audi Q5 lastweek with the same problem, it was Crypt Mytrle tree sap on white paint. She called me and asked if i could detail her vehicle said ok and only told she had some orange spot on paint she could not get out. I picked the vehicle up cleaned all the interior completed treated all leather with Silk shine dressing came out nice. Exterior was clayed along with washing did not inspect the whole vehicle for orange spots, i figured that clay could take it out with no problem. Well it did not even touch it, i then used 3m adhesive on it for a while nadda, then used a mixture of mineral sprits and Xynot in a squirt bottle, let it dewell nada, went over vehicle to look at farther spots, i counted 39 spots mostly on hood and top of vehicle. I then broke out the buffer and 105 nothing,,said wow...called the customer and explained i needed the vehicle for a whole day, I got it the following week, gave it a good wash with wash and clear, reclayed used some Iron x on vehicle, to get them spots of sap off had to resort to the the wetsand method, 2500 grit with a soapy mixture in a spray bottle and away I went,,a few minutes on each spot till it was level with clear, checked all spots many times, used orange pad 4" with megs 105 wtih a dot of blackllight, i tell you if came out all of them took all day though,,returned to customer and took her over the whole vehicle to check paint out,she was very happy with the outcome, along with a heftly bill...hope this helps..:headbang:
I have had great success with Goof Off Professional, sold at Auto Body Shops, or Home Depot, in the Paint Dept. Look for a little yellow metal can with red writing on it. I use it with a Q-tip and let it dwell for a few seconds, rub it with the Q-tip and look at the Q-tip to see if the stain is transferring. It always does. Blot the area to remove any product left, buff it, and it is history too.. Wow, didn't know that Crepe Myrtle Trees dripped sap! That is news to me ! Good luck with this ! Dan F
Thanks for the feedback, according to her the tar is removed but she says she can still see the 'stain' so it sounds like I'll just go for the polishing, just was unclear if tar could somehow damage the clear beyond repair.
Well didn't know that either, she told me they were crepe myrtie tress, will try the goof off stuff next time, sounds like a winner there:applause2:
Just an update on this, it was a little cold when I tried to remove the 'stain' so I was limited on my time due to no garage, now that its warmer Im going to give it another shot. Its a new Jetta, paint seems extremely hard. I was using a yellow 4in pad and m105 and the yellow stain basically laughed at it. Im debating letting someone wet sand it or giving it another shot now.
