Hey guys, when I got the call for this one, it was scheduled for a basic wash/clay/sealant detail. However, once the overcast clouds had parted and the claying was done, I saw a shocking amount of swirls and RIDS. Silver is great at hiding that stuff, so seeing it SO easily without having to hunt with an artificial light source told me this car needed some serious work!

After talking it over with the client, we rescheduled it to be be dropped off the following week for a 3 day correction, shooting for 90%+ correction. Menzerna SIP and LC orange did almost nothing to the heavy swirls and RIDS. Usually this is a great combo for the hard corvette clear coats, but it just wasn't enough here.

Here's the process I ended up with for the correction:
-Makita Rotary with twisted ply wool pad + Meguiars 105
-2nd hit with twisted ply wool pad and Meguiars 105
-PCXP with Lake Country orange flat pad and Menzerna SIP

This removed the vast majority of the RIDS (random isolated deep scratches) and all swirl marks. There were a fair amount of RIDS too deep to be compounded out and would require wetsanding to remove. After the compounding, the Menzerna SIP cleaned everything up very nicely and left a great gloss.

    Process:

    Exterior
    -Foamed with Dawn
    -Rinsed and Dawn wash
    -Sonax Full Effect on wheels
    -Daytona EZ detail brush
    -Swissvax Wheel brush
-Clayed with Z18 and Optimum No Rinse as lube
    -Tires with Meguiars water-based dressing
-Convertible top treated with 2 applications of Raggtopp

    Interior
    -Vacuumed
    -Leather with Megs APC 10:1
    -Adam's Leather Conditioner
    -Stoner's Invisible Glass on windows
-vents and console cleaned with various brushes/qtips

    LSP
-Zaino ZAIO via PCXP and LC black pad
    -Zaino Z2pro
    -Zaino Z6

I started taking the pics after the initial wash and claying. Here goes...

After compounding was done, it was taken back out for a wash to remove polishing oils and compounding dust.

After washing you can see the oils were removed as the paint shows total lack of beading.

Shiny exhaust tips. The Borla exhaust sounded very nice on this Vette.

    Impressive work!

How did that hard Corvette CC cut out for you?

Very nice capturing defects on that car and then double points for improving them so much. I always have the hardest time with silver.

Wow. Is this guy washing the car with Brillo ? Nice job! How many hours did it take?

Nice job, I was luckier with the silver vette I did, almost no defects. People don't understand how hard cvettes are to correct, and you dialed it in nicely.

Thanks guys! Yeah the paint on Vettes usually responds nicely to Menz SIP for heavier removal since its designed for harder clears, but this one just laughed at it.

About 22 hours went into this car.

    Thanks guys!

By far the worst silver I've seen. Can you imagine if it was black??? Lots of work, but nice payoff. Thanks Dave!
