So, I'm trying to do my research on the right clay bar (and also lubricant). To get to the point, I'm trying to find one that's right for me... Black GTI: I've been googling the information, but haven't been getting an accurate, or simple enough explanation of which clay bars for what type of paint, or color. Also, I've been reading up with the lubricant, and I see some people just use their car soap, quick detailer, or just plain water. What is your preference, and why? Thanks in advance.
The color of clay is not universal nor are they made for specific paint type. It's best to go with the manufacturer's description. The way to choose which clay to use depends on how rough your car is. If you aren't sure how bad your case is, it's always best to start with the least aggressive and work your way up as needed. As far a lube, you can use any of the choices you mentioned (I never used car soap other than Optimum No Rinse). It just comes down to preference and cost.
I recommend the following Wash IronX Detailers Domain fine clay ONR lube ( optimum no rinse ) 1z glanz wax ( will make that metallic GLOW !! ) since your car is black... I recommend less claying by adding iron x step into your detail. you can browse these products at www.detailersdomain.com. I hope this helps you out.
