Odd issue: Zymol Glasur > Collinite 845 > AG SRP

A client of mine just called me over to take a look at his car, a Black 2007 Pontiac Solstice. We had done a summer prep to it which included washing of the car, degreasing of the car, clay bar, another degreasing and then followed up with 1 layer of AutoGlym SRP, 1 layer of Collinite 845, and topped it off with Zymol Glasur.

Now, this is not the first time I've used this combo, and every time, it turned out great (another client of mine is still in awe of it's look and durability 7 months later). For some unknown reason, this time it didn't. There are finger print marks (in the direction I was applying the wax) all over the car that are now apparent - on detail-day they weren't - and the paint has an over all greasy, yet sticky feel. Could the wax have had a bad reaction with the (cheap GM) paint, or could there be some other factor in there?

I told him that that he could bring in the car whenever he wanted and that I would strip the car of all waxes again and re-apply a layer of 845 free of charge to remedy the situation, but I'm still curious to know what this odd issue could be.

Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.

Maybe the 845 was not fully cured when you went to apply the Glasur?

Almost sounds like the wax sweated alot and the oils are now on the surface.

Are you sure the wax didn't just sweat?

I'm pretty sure it wasn't "wax sweat". The vehicle was cleaned with a good, not great, car soap and then dried wish a chamois and buffed off with a microfiber (owner washed it himself) and the result was the same. When I went to see the car myself, he had just finished washing it and when I touched it and it felt like there was no wax, but plenty of greasy, while still being grabby. I thought of the 845 not curing for long enough, but then again that doesn't explain why it hasn't done this on any other vehicles which used the exact same process/time frame.

Maybe something the owner did, contaminated bucket, towels, something got on the car while driving, parked...

Is the owner washing with some cheap wash-n-wax shampoo? And you are seeing and feeling some cheap silicone oils let behind.

For me, Glasur over 845 worked great in the winter, when the surface was cool. For some reason in the summer, that combo sweated like crazy. Thats why I am just doing Powerlock now.

That could very well be a possibility, since the other 3 cars I did were in colder weather. I think I may also have left the Glasur on a little too long. It says to remove right away after application, but I did half the car, so it may have taken 5-7 minutes before I removed it. Either way, thanks for the input guys.

The wax is just "sweating" this happens all the time when you apply wax with your hands and only comes up after the car has sat in the sun.
