    Hi all, :hi:

I have been reading a ton lately about detailing and all its glory and would like to attempt my first polish. I have a 2010 Mitsubishi Lancer in black and it has swirl marks everywhere from using the car wash brushes...lesson learned.

My goal is to get rid of the swirls and get my shine back. There are so many different ways of polishing and so many products and its hard to decide what I should get. Please tell me if this setup will work for my goal. Recommendations very welcome!

Here is what I am planning to purchase from eshine

Polisher: Griots Garage 6" Random Orbital Polisher.
I was planning on buying the PC 7424XP but many people recommend the GG over the PC.

Compound: I was thinking M105 with M205 but after some more researching, I think ill do the Menzerna Power Finish PO203.
Is this ok or should I just use M205? Also heard good things about Menzerna Intensive Polish. Also, how many cars would an 8oz bottle finish? I plan on polishing my other cars and am leaning towards the 32oz.

Pads: 6.5" Lake Country CCS pads in orange (polish) and black (wax).
I dont know what would work best with my compounds so I picked these 2. Should I buy 2 of each pad? There is a LC starter kit whre I can pick 3 pads for $35. Which pad combinations should I pick for my needs?

    Wax: 1Z Einszett Glanz Wax
Heard a lot about this wax. Is there a better product I should get? It is currently out of stock on eshine.
I also have Autoglym HD wax where you apply it by hand. Should this be sufficient?

Please chime in if you can help with any of the above
    Thanks guys

    Welcome to DB Throttle Happy.

M105, along with the Menzerna Powerfinish will do the trick, imo.

Eventually, you are going to want a few more pads, but I'm not sure of your budget.

You can apply the wax with whatever you feel is best, as long as it is soft, and won't degrade the finish you've corrected with your polishing steps.

I am a fan of 1z Hart Glanz, and think it is a great wax.

When ordering, Phil from Detailer's Domain owns the site, and imo, has unbeatable customer service, as well as all of the products you'd ever need (besides the Griots polisher LOL).

Best of luck correcting your lancer!

I read that M105 is a little too abbrasive for my needs. If you say it works, I can give it a try.
I was planning on ordering from eshine because im from Canada and want to avoid the shipping/duties costs.

    Thanks for the reply!

Get different pads, 6.5" and CCS suck! Buff and Shine, or Lake Country Flats both in 5.5" work best IME. Overall solid selection, you've done your research. If you have AG HD stick to that, no need to spend more.

If you in the GTA Larry at wisdom detail is local and has good pricing as well.

I thought 6.5" pads are for 6" machines. I will look into the 5.5".
They dont have any flat pads on eshine or autoobsessed. All I see are CCS ones. Any links?

Grab the the flat pads from Autowerkesexclusive.com - Ken is the owner and will help you build an easy to use kit.

M105 can be tailored to a desired cut level by simply changing the pad or the pressure - we have used it on a finishing pad to finish out some paints where we wanted make sure only the polish was doing the work to avoid pad marring. Its a very versatile choice.

The Griot's is an awesome machine, good choice! As for pads the CCS are nice I find them a bit more durable (longer lasting) than the flats. For pad sizes you might as well stick with the 6" unless you want to opt for a new backing plate (5") in order to use the 5.5" pads. For wax I would say get Einszett Glanz it's way better than HD and lasts longer and looks better. And I say go with PowerFinish instead of 205.

Yes - 5.5" pads are way better than 6" or 6.5".

    Easier to manage and cheaper.

Would I need a 5" backing plate or would it work on the 6"?

I thought you were going to use m105 initially, and refine the paint (any micromarring left etc.) with the powerfinish.

Power finish may be all you need, but it may take a few more passes.

e-shine is a great retailer also!

I want to say the GG 6" Random Orbital has a smaller backing plate than 6"....my PC has one that's about 4". But I'll have to double check when I get home.

You should be able to buy PC Backing Plates in all sizes, starting with the 5.5" one that comes with the machine I believe. You can also buy the 4-3/4" for the 5" pads and even a smaller one for the 4" pads from Ken at Autowerks - he used to be a sponsor here and is in Canada. His sign on is 911fanatic..

You guys might think I am nuts but, I can use M105 from compound, all the way up to polish. I dont because I polish out with 085rd. But If I had too, all I would need is m105 with an Orange, White and Black pad and I'd be 97% there. Maybe my 105 is actually 205 in the wrong bottle...

I measured the GG backing plate at 5 6/8" on mine.

I would recommend the GG polisher also, especially with their customer service. Mine actually burnt out today, there was a blue spark when I turned it on, and it's dead now. I called up GG, and they were very helpful and agreed to send me one right away since I was in the middle of a detail, and I paid to add 2 day shipping to get it here quickly. Normally they have you return the product then send you a new one.

I just ordered from Troy @ autoobsessed. Great guy to deal with. Even threw in a bunch of things in for me as a bonus!

    Heres what I ordered:

    Griots Garage 6" Random Orbital

    Meguirs #105
    Menzerna Power Finish
Menzerna Micro Polish (What Troy recommended in addition to the other 2 compounds because I am working on a black car)

    Einszett Glanz Wax

Lake Country 5.5" CCS pads in orange, white, black
    Lake Country 5" Backing plate

Tell me what you guys think. Will this do the job for me? Is this 3 stage polish overkill?

    No.

That's a really good range of polishing products. Any more and then it really would be overkill (and a waist of money).
