I went to Olive Garden with the rents last night. When my mom ran in to check the wait time my dad and I temporarily parked. I noticed the wheels looked off on this S-Class so I went in for a closer inspection. Sure enough, the staggered wheels were rotated incorrectly. The rears were on the front and the fronts on the rear. The fronts were clearing the wheel well plastic by a about a centimeter cocked like this. It probably rubbed when at full lock. I decided to leave the owner a note along with my business card underneath her wiper that told them to call me back for me to describe the issue. But I was afraid that the owner (who was parked in a handicapped spot) might not have seen the note so I continued to watch for a potential MB owner. Then three women were leaving that I suspected may be the persons I ran after and just as the owner grabbed the note and card I started to explain what was going on. It turns out she didn't take the car to an authorized dealer when she replaced her snow tire/wheels. I'm glad I know as much as I do about cars; saved her some grief and potentially a costly accident.
I don't understand, so the rear tires are wider then the fronts and that's why they can't be rotated. On a side note, both my uncle and grandfather have a S550, my uncle trashes his car, no snows in the winter, it's rolling on pirelli's , never detailed or anything. My grandfather takes care of his so much, I think he likes it better then me.
I have seen that before..... its common sloppy work at alot of tire and repair shops where they try to rotate your tires and don't pay attention.
yeah......... that is a common issue. I don't want to say mistake, because they know better, they are being lazy and sloppy
I love it when random car knowledge provides itself useful. That is a good deed and karma will be on your side for that. I once helped this coworker out because he was going to get his oldsmobile bravada towed with the front wheels up. These cars all awd and that surely would have killed a differential or something. You would figure the tow guy would know better.
Did she take it to Jiffy Lube or wally world? That would explain A LOT...Cars like these should be taken TO THE DEALER for service...
I remember this happened to us once, when my dad bought his second BMW, a 2004 330i. We left his old car at the dealership for the night and he took the BMW home and we noticed that the rears were on the front and the fronts were on the rear...how the BMW dealer never noticed that I have no idea. Glad you were able to help them out
