Need some advice on how to take my DD ...

I'm going to have time this weekend to work on my vehicle, but I don't want to spend the entire weekend working on it. The interior is flithy and it's going to take me a while just to get it to my standards.

It's a 10 year-old Maxima that has been somewhat neglected. I want to improve the paint's condition, but I'm not trying to achieve perfection. There's no clearcoat failure though.

I want to tackle this with a DA, even though I have a rotary. I have been having wrist issues lately.

I have the all uber pads, Megs MF system, Prima Swirl, Meg's UC, Optimum HC and HP, and Power Finish.

I'm trying to keep this down to a 1-step or a 2-step tops. I have polished some spots and the clear is medium-hard (similar to Mazda).

How you would guys take this car? It's a light blue color that hides scratches really well.

I would probably one step it with the Megs MF and a medium polish.

 

I have a '99 infiniti i30 - pretty much the same as maxima and will tell you can achuve VERY GOOD RESULTS from a 2-step polish. I'd do paint correction with a rotary, and finish down with a DA. Good luck and remember to post some pics.

If you want I can come down and help you out soon so it's not so much to tackle. In my opinion with the DA I have had success with an Orange LC or Orange Uber and Prima Swirl. If it's not terrible then maybe Uber Green with Prima Swirl but orange might pack more punch with best finish. That or the MF system is a for sure pretty much with 1 step on most paints plus cleaning the pads are cake.

I've been thinking Yellow Uber with Opt HC and Green Uber with Power Finish to remove the haze. I have had great results with this combo. I might give the new mf system a try. I don't have a compressor yet, so I don't know if this is going to be an issue.

 

I say either an Uber orange or green paired with Power Finish or Prima Swirl

 

Uber Orange and Power Finish is the money for a 1 step imo. Should work nice with that color.

I actually did a 2-step with OPT Hyper Compound on a Yellow Uber and Prima Swirl on a Green Uber pad with my PC. Turned out great, but I still have some areas that I need to do. I should be done with them by the end of next week. I'll post pictures.

 

What kind of work time did you have with the Opt. HC with the DA compared to say Menzerna? Any real difference?

 

IMO, HC has a little bit of more work time than menzerna, but it's not a huge difference. The only issues I had with HC were the sprayer (ended up pouring everything in a bottle) and that I was saturating the pad with too much product because it wasn't meant to be poured. Other than that it worked great and provided enough cut for me. Chris@Optimum sent me an updated sprayer that seems to work 100% better than the original sprayer.

I just purchased the 8oz bottles of the newly-formulated Optimum polishes. I'm interested in trying out the compound II after Jason gave it good reviews.
