Hello again! This weekend I had the pleasure to detail a very unique vehicle with the help of v|nsan|ty. The owner of this vehicle contact me with regards to an exterior detail and although my schedule for detailing was quite full, I couldn't pass up on the opportunity after learning about the vehicle in question. The Subject: Total time: 14 hours This 1997 Toyota Supra in Deep Jewel Green Pearl was driven up from the states by the owner. The Deep Jewel Green Pearl was only made in 96-97 and this was a perfect example of the beauty of this paint. What's more, the engine has been extensively modified and the factory twin turbo's were ditched for a massive single turbo resulting in over 750HP. In addition, my father used to own a 1984 MK2 L-Type Supra which he kept since it was purchased brand new up until 2003 when he eventually sold it. I adored that vehicle all my childhood so detailing a MK4 was definitely special. A quick look: I began this detail starting with the wheels, these all aluminum wheels required a gentle cleaning solution so I soaked them with Griot's Wheel Cleaner: Using a Raceglaze detailing brush I cleaned the face of the wheels: Mini EZ Detail Brush was used for the inner barrels: Meguiar's All Purpose Cleaner Plus was used in the wheel wells and tires: Next I turned my attention to the exhaust which required some cleaning: Using Chemical Guys Grime Reaper and fine detailing steel wool I had at it: End result: Next I foamed the vehicle twice using straight CG Citrus Wash N Gloss: Dwelling after the second foam bath: The car was washed with CG Citrus Wash and a sheepskin mitt: I used a grit sponge for the front bumper and lip to remove the bugs: Here's how the paint looked in the sunlight: Next I took the vehicle in the garage, this process was quite the ordeal. With 750hp on tap the vehicle required a clutch with serious gripping power to transfer that kind of power to the gearbox. A triple plate carbon clutch was utilized and this was my first time operating such a clutch. Let's just say I felt as if I have forgotten how to drive stick! With the vehicle in the garage I began claying the vehicle, which proved to be relatively contaminant free: Behind the license plate was a different story: All taped up: The test: Toyota is known to have paint on the softer side, however this vehicle was an exception! After pairing a LC Orange Pad with Menzerna's Power Finish the defects were staying put, so I opted for Meguiar's M105 on a Buff n Shine Yellow pad, and M205 on a LC White pad to finish. Hood before: After: Before: After: Front driver quarter panel before: After: A nasty scratch: After some heavy compounding: Mirror's clear coat was oxidized and lacking clarity: After: Scuff on the door: Removed: Driver side rear quarter panel before: After: At this point v|nsan|ty joined me and began on the rocker panels: Before: After: Trunk lid before: After: Reaching the rear lip of the trunk lid was a difficult task with the large spoiler: Before: After: 50/50 of the top of the rear bumper: Before: After: Roof before: After: Passenger side quarter panel before: After: Behind the door handles needed some work: After some Menzerna Power Finish and a yellow applicator pad: Next I moved onto the plastics, starting with the headlights: Before: After: Tailights before: After: Once the paint correction was completed, I took the car outside for a final wash: The paint was already looking miles better, with clarity and depth: I took it back in and we applied Menzerna Power lock for a durable sealant: Vince worked on cleaning the emblems: Autoglym's Tire Dressing was used on the tires: With the Power Lock buffed off we took it out for a final shoot: Thanks for reading!
Unbelievable. I haven't seen that color in so long and you make it look so good. You did an EXCELLENT job bringing it back to fresh. I can't say enough - great job.
Another extensively detailed write up Adam. Great job! Thanks for all the compliments guys. A big huge thank you goes out to M3ride for lending us his backing plate. Without it, this project would not have been completed in a day. Also, some panels had to receive a Surbuf and M105 combo as a yellow foam pad was doing next to nothing. Luckily the Surbuf/M105 took care of those finicky areas. This car was definitely a pleasure to work on.
Wow that's amazing! Nice that you had good paint to start with looks like it was a pretty well maintained car
