Well i have been wanting to buy a bunch of good correction polish equipment and supplies for awhile but just haven't bit the bullet I am getting into installing Paint Protection Film (3M certified now) so i had to spend my money on Film, a Graphtec Plotter and supplies instead. I just finished installing my coil-overs and lowering my car and i was fed up with the finish on my black 09 Mustang GT this past long weekend so i decided to cheap out and buy a $30 Simoniz DA(which i will be returning becuase it broke already hah) and Meguiars Ultimate Compound,Ultimate Polish and Gold Class wax. As well as a Meguairs Clay kit. Anyways i went to town, this was the first time i had ever touched any of these products, or ever clayed/polished a car at all. My car had lots of swirls as well as some marring that's a little deeper. Needless to say i am impressed with the overall result, it removed 80% or more of the swirls, but i am still sstuck with some deeper marring in places. And now i am hooked! I want a perfect and flawless finish for my Ebony Black. I am curious what is recommended to remove some of the deeper stuff? which products? pads?(i am going to get a GG DA i think) The Meguairs Ultimate Compound and Polish with a basic application pad and terry cloth bonnet is all i used and worked not bad, but i know i will need better to go deeper for the rest. Anyways here are some pictures, CC is more than welcome! Also a side note, what do you guys recommend for cleaning the inside of my fender wheels and inside my wheels? that's my next plan.
Inside your wheels and fender wells I would just use an all purpose cleaner diluted 1:1, then dress with your choice of vinyl cleaner and wheel wax for the wheels.
Looks good the only thing i would suggest is to get some good lighting. Make a big differance when your working and taking pics to post. Also Sonax Wheel cleaner is Great and Optimum PC is great for wheel wells as well ass 100 different applications Menzerna makes Great polish and DetailsDomain has the best pads avaialble (IMO). Menzerna Power Finsih and Super Finish are Great with Green and Blue pads (you can mix an match the combinations depending on situation) Also The Flex XC3401 is a great machine to get if your not experanced enought to get a rotary and, that is what i used before i got my rotarys (Makita9227 and FlexPE14). The PC is a good cheap machine to get but not a powerfull as the flex.
I'm assuming that is wax that you applied with the DA in your shots? It appears that you have way too much of it on! Save your self some cash and apply thin coats, such thick coats is just wasting your product. Good work! Keep it up.
yes i do, i have been doing lots lately for kids cars and such, also my roommate owns a clothing company called ENS Apparel, so i have been doing some stuff for him, its nice and is helping pay off the 40" FC series Graphtec and stuff. Yes lights are something i need bad, mine suck! Bad part is i am only renting this place so i dont wanna pour money into it, i already painted it quick with qhite paint to brghten it up, is there a good portable option for lights? Also are you saying what polish and compound i use does not matter as long as its a good brand name? now that i have removed most wash swirls is it going to be the product or the pad that allows me to get deeper and get the stubborn marring? actually the pictures are of either compound or polish, cant remember, the wax was a liquid that was hand applied and hand removed, i agree though i think i used to much wax because after i removed it i was left with a bit of a hazy look that took lots of work to get off and in some spots needed to be rewetted with quick detail er to remove it.
What i meant is that you can use Power Finish on a Uber Green or Blue pad, and you can use Super finish on Green or Blue pad depending on your paint condition. This would be the combos you can do which those polishes. Power Finish on Green (most correction) Power Finish on Blue (mild Correction/Finishing) Super Finish on Green (mild Correction/ Finishing) Super Finish on Blue (Finishing) You don't need permanent lighting you just need some halogen lights as they show defects really well. This is a good portable light which cost <$20 Clothing, Toys, Electronics, Jewelry, Jaclyn Smith - Kmart.com Also Detailers Domain Sells some Brinkman lights which are cheap and good
ok i went and purchased a halogen today, as well as all new "white" fluorescent bulbs for my T12 lights above me and cleaned up all the light fixtures, looks allot brighter in there now as the overall appearance and the halogen works well for seeing defects. Now i just need to put together a shopping list for pads/products and decide on a PC,GG or Flex DA, the Flex is pretty pricy so i don't know?
Actually the Meguiars ultimate compound is pretty close to their professional line stuff, so you are not too far off there. A better machine will produce even better results if that is what you are wanting to do. A lot of people i know, really like the Griot's 6" Random Orbital. I have a Flex 3401 VRG and a Meguiars G110V2 for smaller areas, and do all my major correction with Rotary Power. The Random Orbitals with the newer Meguiars microfiber pads and 300 series compounds, are supposed to be about as good as a Rotary, but I think they will take longer and will be close, but no cigar... Nice job with the OTC Megs line you should post this on moddedmustang.com in the detailing section as well As for which DA to get I would get the Flex 3401 or the GG DA and for rotary it would be the Festool Shinex but good luck getting a M14 backing plate for it like the 3M Perfect it III 5" one here in the states.
