I do not disagree with your points nor would I disparage an affluent person for wanting an uber expensive wax applied to their vehicle or even believing that it is superior.

My point is that having hands on knowledge of these products, we as the experts in our field should know where the true value & beauty resides, which is in the prep and not get sucked into the “hype”.

In days past I used to try to up-sell my clients on such offerings but after getting some experience with these types of products I later realized that I was not offering a superior product. I have since changed my approach and try to up-sell items/services/products that I can say, with a straight face are superior products without having to regurgitate hyperbole that has been fed to me (and us) by the respective manufacturer. If after that the prospect is still dead set on the wax…….by all means I up-sell it.

With this approach my clients see 1st hand that I am not just trying to make a quick buck off of them which creates an environment of trust and respect.

The guy does ultra top notch work. Noone can take that away from him. I think he should get paid for every single second of labor and talent @ the rate people are willing to pay.

Putting his name on a sealant/coating/wax that has a cost 1/10th (likely an overestimate) of production cost, and allowing buyers to pay that insane premium is something I couldn't do morally.

Where can I get a Pepsi sticker? I love me some Pepsi.

It would have been nice to see how it applies rather than 7 minutes of walkaround.

I agree, there are many top level detailers that achieve equal results to PD but do not receive a proportionate amount of publicity. But that is one of the things I commend Dalton for, he has made himself a brand through good marketing and has seen increased attention and demand accordingly. I wouldn't say his work is above any of the top detailers such as KDS or Estoric by any means, but it is still the top level of detailing and nothing to scoff at.

he went viral on Youtube...... and due to his 5k car wash, and some other media. I think the general public thought a car detail package that price was abusurd, but then realized the precision and the effort that went into it.........I appluade him and others who work hard, but some people don't always need to be a superstar to have outstanding "branding" but he has definatley elevated the industry and the preception, no longer are detailers viewed always as some sweat shop labor farm, but can be viewed as professionals with skillsets most people have no clue about. I think some people here do just as good a job as PD and thier humbleness shows.

Interesting fact, the guy that wrote the press release for the 5K car wash went on to co-found Dodo Juice.

From the Dodo Juice website (under the Talk to Us tab)

Dom did the PR for the famous '5k car wash' before realising that a decent car wax didn't have to come with a mortgage application. After having made some early wax prototypes on his stove at home, he enlisted some chemists to help develop the Dodo Juice range and asked pj to help him run things. Today, you'll most likely find him wielding a rotary with a wool pad testing compounds on his unsuspecting Peugeot - "22 test panels in close formation". When he's not detailing, his interests include eating Bahlsen
biscuits, trying not to crash at the Nurburgring and watching old Cillit Bang ads on Youtube.

Marketing over substance, just like his wax

    ....zing lol

I'll give credit for creating that super expensive car wash/detail niche. I'm sure that sort of exposure has helped pave the way for alot of detailers to start charging more realistically for their labour intensive work

Talking about expensive waxes did bringing out our feminine side,LOL:applause2:.Look,women believe that even an exactly same colour of lipstick or eyeshadow but made from expensive brands did actually make them more beautiful.People see differently, but everyone have their own reason why they're using their favorite brand or stuff:)
