Nor is common sense... unless of course you use it as a method of upsell to clients that that think that just because a wax cost $XXXXX it must be better.

It's snob appeal, pure and simple.

Unless you have used it, how can you say its just snob appeal?

Can you get similar results with other products, yes.

Not asking this to be cynical but what do the "high-end" "sell your left nut" waxes have that say CG 50/50 does not? Chemical makeup wise.

I think we should look at Paul D as a idol ( not Pauly D from jersey shores):giggle: Because Paul get paid top $ for top notch work. is that why people are mad?? because we can't earn that from our customers?? he opened the door for me for detailing with his 5 th gear video couple years ago. Im sure he opened many doors for many people who never dream of $1000 details for a living....

Thats all I got to say.

He's the Bill Gates of detailing! Lol. Theres no denying top notch work, and whats wrong with getting sponsored or creating your own product? If theres a market for things, then there will always be something to fill that void. Hes a great businessman!

I think its great Paul Dalton has his own line of products, look at Ken Block, he elevated a somewhat obscure brand to the mainstream. Every segment of society has its (and I say this loosely) pioneers. Look what he did for Monster, a drink of all things. I think people would find it odd if i had a huge "Pepsi" sticker on my car, but its ok and cool to have a monster sticker. To each his own.

I happen to like Paul Dalton and his work, but I would not foresee myself spending that kind of money on a wax, doesnt mean I cannot afford it. It means that I don't see value, in it. And that is not a bad thing.........its personal preference.

I for one am not in the least bit mad at or with Paul. Quite the opposite, I commend and applaud him for his accomplishments.

My point is that we are detailers on this forum and as a result have used uber expensive waxes and budget waxes only to realize that 99.99% of the finished product comes from properly prepping the paint.

The wax companies try to pull the wool over our eyes claiming that their waxes have ridiculous amounts of carnauba in them. If you only knew the truth you would realize that if there were as much as they claim it would be useless.

    I understand what you're saying.

but let me ask you this.. if you had enough people ask you " can you wax my car with crystal rock? " would you answer the same way you just did? or you go grab the CR and start upselling.

I would go grab CR and charge $100+ a layer IMO

which is the cheapest raw ingredient in any wax

the CR wax isnt anything special imo, i didnt see any magical visual effects on the solid black it was applied to, in fact imo naviwax dark looked better on solid black

re the PD fanboys, send me a link to a KDS style full wet sand detail with his name on it and ill start getting impressed

    no PD war here

but this video from 6:10 - 7:30 shows paul wet-sanding ( im sure he knows how to wet-sand)

and in this video Paul had a shop taken apart a Carrera GT for detail ( im pretty sure KDS has people in his shop that does this type of work also, removing parts and re-install them)

    You point makes perfect sense.

Generally speaking those people paying XXXX.xx for a product (wax) dont really care about small statistics, they buy the best (or perceived best) because of its high praise and prestige and forget about the rest. Truth is there isnt anything wrong with that, there is a market for everything.

I know watch collectors that have watches worth over $100,000... do they keep more precise time than most any other brand, not really but the name that goes along with the watch, plus the build quality etc and prestige makes it worth something to people, and those people who have that kind of money really don't mind spending 100k on a watch, its not like their house payment isnt getting paid because they bought a new piece.

True,i may have 2 pot of CR.But i keep it for my personal use,a couple weeks ago i'm detailed an 3 year old black E Klasse and spend 2 days just for jeweled it with UK version Ultrafina. After that put CF and 2 layer of Concorso and that car are the blackest and wettest Benz at the dealership:D.I see no point for charging customers with an expensive wax, except they are know how to maintain it like an detailer does:)

It's all about what you want to spend and show off. You can only get so good of a quality of wallet, but some people insist on Gucci. It doesn't necessarily mean it's wrong, but people do it anyway. I just wouldn't feel right upcharging IF I were making claims that it was substantially better.
