As I'm sure many of you have, today I saw a first (for me). I'm painting a body kit for someone and decided today would be a good day to base and clear. It's been raining off and all all morning. I take a back stretch of road to break up the monotony. On the driveway I see a man washing his car. I slow to look. He's using a floor mop. A swab the deck floor mop. Any other strange wash techniques out there
Ive seen people using old shirts, beanies, dish soap, laundry detergent, nothing short of a small dog....... most people are clueless, and probably don't care about the finnish of thier car. That is what keeps detailers in business, so go ahead, whip out that brilo, whip out the windex and wash away.
I see a lot of people using the long handled boat scrubbers/floor scrubbers. The 12" wide blue bristled thing. Makes me cringe whenever I see it. I would have a hard time using that on my tires for fear of it getting too close to my wheels, let alone touching it to paint. My dad is like this though, a vehicle is just that, a vehicle to go from point A to point B. I don't let him touch his own car if I can help it.
Lol, well... I am ashamed to say that I was taught like that from my dad. Old white cotton shirts to wash with, newer shirts to dry, 1 bucket, dish washing soap, rags dropping on the floor. THANKFULLY all has changed, and now this year I need to teach my dad to care a lot more, label my products so he can know what everything is for.
yeah, thats how i was raised as well which is funny because my dad collects old british sports cars, and washes his DD that way but always did his collection of cars the correct way, I never understood that. I find it funny when im washing my cars or someone elses the guy accross the street busts out his stuff, wash broom and all to wash his tahoe, atleast he is using meguiars gold class shampoo, but he uses dish towels and other stuff to dry his car. Oh well its cheap and he is happy. Im ok with using car wash brooms on cars as long as they are the right one, im waiting till phil gets the boar's hair broom head back in, its worth the money.
