Today, the temps flirted with freezing so I washed the Lincoln (as well as the garage floor). I made a video to show how the CQ has held up so far. I have an issue with the wheels but didn't have the time to try P21S on them which I believe may clean up the marks that the Zep did not get out. The Zep was my usual 4:1 mixture. so it seems like it's beading decently? what are your thoughts on it versus a high durability wax, like 845?
Yes, it's beading and it also sheets the water very well which is just as important to me. I used to use a 3 step process of DG 501/105 and Colli 845. This so far seems to last better. What I mean by that is it is as frenetic to shed water (and dirt) as it was when it was first put on. Don't forget, I was playing with Aquartz, Opti Coat and Cquartz all on my old FX35. I know how they react when they're just applied. It doesn't seem to have lost any of its properties. Although the chemistry of the 2 products is different (I won't get into who says what is better as I like them both), both accomplish the same relative goal of surface protection and a modicum of hardness added to the surface as well.
so you think is it hard enough to withstand most rock chips? i still need to go to mercedes to get some touch up paint and fix a few rockchips that has landed on my hood
Richy - Thanks so much for the time and effort to give us a look at your Cquartz 2 months hence ! Wow, from what I can see, your Lincoln is beautiful - in Winter - !!!! Ive personally been on the fence about all these products for now, and will see if the budget later will allow me to try them on my vehicles (as you have done), and then possibly, if the cost is worth it, to implement into the business. But for what I see so far, it looks very promising, and if its less labor intensive, than all the work we do today, then it has to be a win -win ! Very nice review Rich. I still want to get Cquartz but am still hesitant because I have several other LSP's I still have not tried that are in my fridge and others that are still more than 75% full If I applied Cquartz to my ride those would basically be useless. I guess I can still use them as toppers every once and a while to add a bit of depth.
nice idea, we'll think of it for future coat, but you are flattering to much for cquartz, it wont help you with stone chips , maybe very small ones but not the big ones.though 2 layers in the front hood will make it stronger. think of the speed these stone chips hits the paint , its like sand blasting! very powerful... but i will think of it... could be good idea.
Guys, thanks for the responses. I can't multiple-quote with Tapatalk, so I'll just summarize. As far as rock chips go, no it won't. I have a small one on the front of the Lincoln. Maybe Avi can develop another product as a topper that would be stronger. I don't know what the technology is capable of. As far as using this product, you must ask yourself two questions: Can I justify the cost vs the benefits? And perhaps the deal-breaker for some: Can I live without experimenting with different products on my paint? I do a lot of beta testing so this was a hard decision for me. Avi, thanks for responding. this is really cool. I'm curious, after you use this coating and it dries (gets broken in or whatever), what happens if you end up getting a scratch or scrape? What I mean is would the color-matching properties of products like automotivetouchup still be effective? Has anyone had experience with this?
Wow, what an honour to answer your 1st post! Welcome to DB by the way. The coating has to be removed with compound. If you got a chip in the hood for example, you would buff the area to remove the coating, fill it in and let it cure and then re-seal the area. You can put new CQ over old CQ with no problem..I've done it.
