Just get the backing plate for the PC instead. Thats what I am going to do, but I am getting the Gloss it 3" backing plate for my Makita (since its padded) and I am going to get the adapter that Chemical guys sells to use a Rotary backing plate on a D/A. That way I can use it both with my Makita and my PC. Here is what I am going to get.

I am going to go the other route.. I'm going with the Griot's 3"... Simply because when i'm working I can go to either machine pending on the area where i'm working without much fuss...

own both. actually both new and old versions of griots. still not that impressed. the smaller size is the only plus. not sure a four inch pad on it would work as well as a 3. i use gen 2 now only for windshields. go for the pc or megs with the backing plate.

You can do either, I have used the 3.5" pad on the 6" machine without issues.

The only reason I would suggest the 3" machine is if you want a smaller machine for smaller areas, such as headlights, wheels, tight areas where the full size is just too big. If you don't want to bother changing backing plates all the time, two machines is nice to have.

I have both and see a need for both. Sometimes the area you need to polish has cleaerances issues with doors, or hinges, etc...as spot where the PC or power drill cant get to. The Griots 3" works great for places like this. I also love it for polishing the soft clear of interior wood. If I can use the PC, I do... The griots has saved me from hand polishing a few times, tho.

Just a warning, tahe PC + 3" can burn through clear fairly easily if you are not careful. A little weight + orange pad + M105 = trouble even with a RO if you stay in one place for too long.

I have a GG3, works great for me on pillars and other tight places. Don't get the 3 inch pads from Griot's though, they suck, lol.

i have the 3.5" plate for the PC. a PC is small, and 4" pads are small.

but i can see how it would be nice to have a separate PC already equipped with a small backing plate for small areas, especially something as little as the Griot's piece. but it'd have to be robust because i actually use the smaller pads quite a bit, and i'm not convinced from what i've read that the smaller Griot's DA is durable enough to rely on for anything more than very occasional use.

so, for now, i stick with the PC and swap plates when necessary. i also have a 2 3/4 plate for my Makita but with that you are still using 4" pads and the Makita is quite a bit larger than a PC.

i'm curious, is the tiny backing plate for the Griot's mini polisher permanently installed? i apologize if i missed that.
