and we've been higher than USD since last week as well...

that means you can buy more stuff from USA. Now if you can figure out a way how not to pay a stupid tax on it you will be golden...

 

yep the USD is pretty much on a downward slide that will only now gain momentum

and the fact countries like china and russia are nolonger trading in US dollars is it's final nail in the coffin

our Aussie dollar has been at parity for a good 4 months now

so spend up big while your national currency is still strong - because reality is the fall of the US dollar will drag alot of other nations down too that dont trade with china on a big scale

 

Yeah, that bothers me. Considering NAFTA states we are not supposed to pay duties on products manufactured in and crossing borders in North America (Canada, Mexico and the USA) I still get charged for everything...when it says "Built/Manufactured in USA" on the damn bottle! ARG! I only buy from the states if I absolutely have to, otherwise, Ken and Chris get my business!

 

One aspect is that Canada's value added tax is much higher (2x) than a traditional state sales tax.

 

Damn ... I remember back in 96 1 US dollar = 1.25 CAN dollar. That was the first time I visited Canada.

re the made in USA import issue, i still paid customs duties and our local 10% goods and services tax on my ADV wheels manufactured in US despite a free trade agreement. The issue is where the raw materials come from

 

the problem is the government can't manage the f***ing budget...therefore they never have enough, and they want the middle class to fill it up...Rich says, f*** it, I'm no paying that, poor has no money anyway, and middle class gets screwed...problem is, we take all those jobs to China (which pisses the f*** out of me) and eliminate middle class...who is gonna pay those taxes? Corporations don't wanna pay either...

i wouldnt mind being able to go to vegas and throwing down 50k on a blackjack hand knowing there was someone standing behind me to bail me out if i lost

depending on how much you wish to read into it, the destruction of the middle class is exactly what a recession aims to do. Whatever wealth the middle class possess is turned over to the truely wealthy. You can decide whether its deliberate or just coincidental

Bailouts prolong the inevitable, and actually make it worse. The biggest problem we have is that we don't produce and export enough. Half of our companies are probably run by unions who cushion and protect people who shouldn't have a job at that level of effort, therefore minimizing profits, making products more expensive OR of lesser quality, and then people buy imports. It's not all about slashing prices either. Offering a higher wage than other companies will bring more talented workers who actually have something to offer by means of developing new systems, methods, yada yada that will cut down on costs and those reductions are passed on to consumers. Yes it is bad, temporarily speaking, for an American company to go under. The problem is that in the long run you are supporting a failing entity that should be a dinosaur. In the long run, it's better for these businesses to fail. It's economics 101 that says that publicizing a company makes it less efficient. This country was founded on go-getters and I think that mentality has slipped by the wayside. At the dealership I see how the mechanics "work" and the salesmen "work" and it makes me sick to my stomach, zero work ethic or responsibility, just push something off onto someone else instead of doing the work yourself. If you break something being a dumbass, the dealership will just pay for it.

 

We should not bail out anyone! Chrysler went bankrupsy, but Ford made it! I hate it so much wasting our money bailing out GM, and they still make rubbish...

 

In order for us to be more efficient, people need to be less into sports and facevook socialism. I hate it so much when all I hear from my co-workers (and they do it to kill time, instead of being busy at work) talking about baseball, and how many lovers each player had, and so on...or socializing on facebook from their smart phones...Socialism is un-American!

 

With the way things are going now its hard to predict what the next big move in the market will be. From what I have seen in the market is that despite it doing well it is only happening from financial sectors getting stronger and posting record net revenues. You have to remember the market is an indicator how the market is projected to do 6 months down the line, not so much that day. Despite many companies growing stronger they are doing it with less people so the market isn't taking into affect socio-economic factors, or what is going on in the household. It doesn't truly take into affect the tremendous jobless rate we have. Yes, the market has picked up, companies are doing better but they are doing it more efficiently with less people. Plus with the Fed buying back treasuries at the mass they are so quickly, it's exactly what got us in a rut last time. It devalues the dollar tremendously letting other countries have their way with us.

facebook socialism = your co-workers trying to kill time because they are bored (instead of doing their job) on their smartphone logging in/updating facebook profile. To such I say, socialism is un-American!
Discussing politics is the best way to kill time! My manager will talk for hours NON-stop throwing f-bombs here and there...it's so entertaining...

 

work ethics are one thing i find very different in NA in general vs Hong Kong/Asia in general
back in HK everyone works like a dog till midnight and start work at 9 and no overtimepay
here... overtime pay at 1.5 after 4:30, 2 times on weekends, 4 times on holidays

 

That's another big thing, actually having the conviction to stick by your principles. People are just way to indecisive and need to be prodded half of the time.

 

Yeah its headed for a one way street of mindlessness. We have banned it from our office because so many people were being unproductive by logging in all the time. Look at it on your own time not company's time when you are getting paid to perform a job, not socialize.

I work in a place that we are on the phones a lot and I have noticed that the younger generation (unfortunately my generation) has a complete lack of phone etiuquette. We have to teach them how to have a conversation. No one uses their phone for calling anymore so they don't know how to speak well or be a conversationist.

 

That would be facebook socializing, not socialism. You mean to say socializing is un-american? Socialism is un-american, but I dont think thats what you mean to say. Socializing and socialism are kinda unrelated in this sense...
