I have a client that is very interested in having a Swissvax product put on his car for lsp this summer. While I don't normally stock any of the SV waxes, I am prepared to pick up Concourso or perhaps Mystery for application on this client's car.
Obviously a pot of SV will last through many applications, and since they don't offer sample pots, I will have the wax around to offer on future details. For offering a premium wax like this to customers, I want to make sure and profit off of the pot in the long run.

My question is where I should set the pricing for applying this premium wax? How do you all come up with a number? Percentage of the total cost, flat rate, # of applications before you recover the cost??? TIA.

It really depends on which one you use. I usually charge a minimum of $100 for the application of a high end wax. It goes up from there depending on which wax they choose.

For those that want a premium wax that I don't already have there is an up charge equal to 25% to 30% of the wax they want. Above $250.00 they buy the wax, I apply, and they keep whats left. Some back off right away, others money is no object.

^^ Not a bad idea at all I have just been charging MSRP and they keep the leftover tub. I figure I'm still making out pretty good since I'm not breaking into my own stash and I still get the same amount if I was.

So Nick, you would buy a wax for say $150, charge them $150 to apply it and let them keep the tub?

I would not let him keep the tub. t. I would treat it like any other product...... Unless he buys it himself and you can charge him labor to put it on. Nobody rides for free. Just because its Swissvax, and not lusso oro, why is it any different? Besides if you keep it he will come back to you to re apply it.. maybe cut him a deal on maintance wax jobs.

Well not exactly lets say P21S 100% for example list price is 33.95 and its on-sale and I end up paying 23.95 total I'm up 10 bucks. I still figure into the price for the labor time and the customer gets something to hold onto with my business card on the backside of the tub.

I have only done this 4 times so far but so far 2 of the customers have come back to me for a maintenance wash and reapplication. I should mark up the stuff 20-30% but with smartphones at customers fingertips they can easily find it cheaper somewhere else and I lost out on an easy 10 bucks and something they can hold onto with my business card on.

Most customers just go with what I think best for their car and thats usually what I have in stock and then I would keep the inventory. I also do 10% off for all repeat customers and referrals.

^^ same here, most peoples cars I do dont know car wax from ear wax..... brands really dont matter and all they care about is results. So my customers are happy with my recomendation...

Some others are intrested and somewhat knowlegable, but I still keep the tub......... LOL but nobody has ever asked me for it either.

Thanks for all the responses gents. :thumb:
I think I am going to go with charging 30% of total cost per application of a premium priced beauty wax and keep the tub.
Say it is a tub of Mystery, costing around $515. My 30% fee would be $154.50, and the manufacturer speculates 8-15 applications from a tub. That would be $1236-2317.50 gross. I would have to factor in initial cost of acquiring the wax and cleaner fluid but it is still a nice profit with that pricing structure. Also, you break even on the 4th application of the product, which is much better than needing to get deeper into the tub to find profit.

that is a good plan, well thought. Maybe round it up to $160.00. I think its fair.......

Very good idea Rcrew I might implement that to my pricing structure instead of letting the customer keep my potential profits.

What I do for that type of customers who are looking for a premium wax divide the price of the tube in 10 applications and charge the double of that since we normally apply 2 coats on each job and we keep the rest and so far none of my customers have complain in several yrs
    hope this help

Hmm just curious why up charge? why not just have it if they request it?

Phil- a few thoughts to answer your question:
I do offer a beauty wax as part of my lineup (chem guys 50/50), and most customers requesting a 'nuba are fine with this product. I have been happy with its performance, and am waiting until I am through that tin to move on to something else.
Since this customer in my OP was very interested in and adamant about SV, I saw it as an opportunity to benefit both a customer, by fulfilling his wish for SV, and my business by acquiring SV and being able to profit from offering it to customers of a more discerning or enthusiastic level.
Finally, since it is not requested that often by my customers, and my operation is not big yet, it doesn't make financial sense at this point to go out and pickup a premium product like the SV this customer is interested in (Mystery) for $500 to simply add it as an offering. I want to be able to profit from stocking it in a quantitative way.
Hope that clarifies where I am coming from.:thumb:

Thanks. I think that since not every customer asks for SV or is even familiar with this type of premium product, and since the look of a beauty wax is so subjective, why not treat it like the premium product it is and charge a bit extra for those that perceive it as being so valuable...
