Looking through my some old files given to me by the guy I picked up my 944 from I found some recent Concours score sheets and the paint was rated 10/10! Funny thing was when I got the car it was swirled like a mofo. Do these judges not care about swirls/rids?
Trained judges examine the vehicle thoroughly and in its entirety. They rate each and every component. Only those vehicles that are judged perfectly original (or very nearly so) in every way, are considered eligible for trophy class. The original concept behind Concours d’élégance in most instances is about the vehicles originality so it wouldn't have anything to do with the wax, it would have nothing to do with the paint finish, or what was used to polish or protect it. But most owners who own and show Concours d’élégance vehicle also take pride in how they look and would naturally want their paint etc to be protected against the elements. I know when I used to enter cars I’d always present them to look the best I could, did it win BOS because of its shine, doubtful but I think it had something to do with the overall marks, I know later on as a judge I took it into account when awarding a score
I noticed the same thing. I also noticed that just before the cars are rolled out, they have some one spraying them with QD and wiping them down in a circular pattern. I'd imagine in dusty Scottsdale, thats not a good idea. I cringe... Joe D.
Max thanks for bringing that up ... i also live in a dusty enviroment and have done the same thing.. used a qd on a dusty car. I'm new at this and that advise reminded me what dust can do to a nice finish ...
Good amount of glaze was used but I could still spot them from a mile away. I understand the they strive for "showroom" originality/cleanliness and these guys take white gloves to the under carriage, behind foot pedals, under flip headlights etc... I just find it hard to believe they overlook swirling (or are too busy looking for other things) If I were a judge I would bust out my fenix and really see how the cars stack up.
