Polishing Gloss Black Wheels

Hey guys,

Ive got some gloss black wheels on my GTI and they've accumulated a fair amount of swirls and fine scratches. I was wondering what I could use to polish these out and make them look good again. I do have a PC .

a 3" pad and some of the Menzerna polishing line and I would imagine you can pull most of the defects out. I did some hand polishing on a gloss black wheel of a Mustang GT awhile back and could see a big difference. Using a PC would be even better...

 

i agree a pc and small pad and some good polishes should get the job done. just be carefull as a wheel is gonna be a bit harder than a panel on a car. also if that dont work for you you could hand polish, or use a AIO, or a glaze than seal.

 

Can you get away using a PC? If so try a 3" pad on the surface then use a maybe a hand polishing pad for spots you reach. I've had some luck with SSR2.5 by hand on my old wheels using a normal hand applicator.

 

Thanks guys! I have most of the Menzerna polishes so ill give that a shot. White polishing or Orange cutting pad?

Also any ideas on how to clean them in the future without inducing swirls?

 

Try the white polishing pad first since that is the less aggressive option. You can always move up to a more aggressive pad later if needed but white should be enough. The only way you can try and avoid swirls is to use a more delicate and gentle wash media; whatever you are using for paint, buy another to use on the wheels and simply use a maintenance soap with lots of lubricity.
