  4. Sorry guys. I just wouldn't feel right offering a freebie and then charging you for the shipping and customs fees. The thing is, I have a budget and I can do a whole lot more if I keep it in the contiguous U.S. I will speak to Dr. G and see if we can do a Canadian only event from time to time. Stay tuned...

You could try shipping to point roberts together with other vancouverites, and the worst case is they charge you some taxes (hopefully not duty), which will be less than the shipping + brokerage!

what's the deal with Canadian taxes/duties/broker fees and other non sence? In US orders under $200 are tax free...

The only things that can evade import duties are things thats Made in US because of US-Canada trade agreements (thus US made vehicles are actually cheaper)
Broker fees... UPS likes to charge you broker fee, USPS and Fedex havent charged me broker fee ever.
Tax wise its 12% Harmonized Sales Tax to BC and Ontario. Only 5% to Alberta tho. Its random via shipping, and also random when we cross borders. Supposedly theres a 75 dollar allowance if you leave Canada for 24hrs.

Don't forget Mexico, it is NAFTA (North America Free Trade Agreement) after all! I've never paid for duties before for items coming from States... yet, despite some stuff not being US origin. Although I have been charged taxes, there was no sign of them opening the packages. I'm sure it's hit and miss, along with if the item is higher value and definitely foreign-ish then they would make the effort to open and check.

Brokerage fees from Fedex and UPS are similar, and very high. For example UPS:

UPS: Rates for Customs Clearance into Canada

In some cases nearly 50% of the value of the items. You could get lucky and not be charged, or just opt for USPS. USPS just hands it to Canada post and they charge you a flat $5 brokerage fee.

Borders are hit and miss too, I have always declared full value of items. I know sometimes they might decide to pull you over to do a check, and if you lied, they'll probably blacklist you and you will get charged fees for not declaring your items, just don't do it :shakehead:...

i think i have heard from people that if you dispute UPS about brokerage charges, they sometimes waive it. but yeah UPS is crazy.
@ borders never lie or have someone who stutters and gets confused with what he/she is saying as the driver, not a good sign for them and for you lol

if you dispute it the vendor gets charged for it.

if you bail on the duty the vendor gets charged for it.

someone will pay the tab and it won't be UPS/FEDEX....ask me how I know. ;)

Just my .02$ ... But on a jar of product worth $20 bucks there would be no duty or taxes..... And if you write on the package "gift" there would be no taxes or duty........

KY..... Were talking about a sample package worth $20 bucks..... There is no way they would charge out on a 20$ gift....
