A follow up question to my question about the M105. I've been attempting to de-swirl a 97 Honda Civic it has that purple color of paint. But with my PC an orange pad and M105 its not even making a dent. I tried to use the yellow pad to see if it made any difference. Nothing is even changing. You can't tell the difference between a test spot and a non worked on spot. Does anyone know if honda paint is particularly hard or thick? Anyone that has any advice please let me know asap. thanks.
I don't know that they are all like it, but all the newer Honda paint I have worked on has been really soft, to the point that I don't think I've ever even had to use M105 on it.
has the civic been repainted? by the age, it potentially may have another paint on it. Could it also have been swirled beneath the clear coat? (or did they have clearcoat back then)
i second both of the previous posters. Honda paint is generally really soft. By the sounds of it the car may have been repainted or some how have gotten swirls or sanding marks beneath the clear coat. I don't think honda ever made a purple colored vehicle. Maroon, blue or possible the black pearl are all that i can think of in which would come close to that. Check to see if it has been repainted as you might just be compounding for nothing.
I've never seen a Honda with hard paint before... hmmmm... I am leaning towards an error in technique.
I find it hard to believe that there would be NO difference if it was an error in technique. I could understand not getting great correction, but I don't see how it could look exactly the same.
i agree. Maybe it would be best if the thread started could maybe post up some pre/post pics so we can all take a better stab at things.
Why don't you explain to us what your technique is. Even with hard paint, a yellow pad and M105 _has_ to make some sort of difference.
I'm almost certain I remember a purple variant in the late 90s. Anyways, OEM or not, this paint seems to be acting funny; OP, definitely fill us in on your technique.
I think pictures would be very helpful because as stated by other member Hondas clear tends to be on the soft side.
Ill get some pics if i can. This isnt the first car I've done. And yes it has been repainted. So you think the swirls are under the clear? That could be a possibility. Waiting for my camera chord at the moment. There are all these crows feet in the hood as well i know i wont be able to take all those out.
One of the major problems I'm having is that after using the product on a section it seems to haze up really bad and seems like that the product does not want to come off. This has happened with two different products. M105 on a yellow and orange pad and even Menzerna 203. This is one of the major problems I'm having, I'm struggling to get the product off the car and then after I do its hazing up and you can't make out the difference from a test panel and a non-test area. As far as technique im putting product on the 5.5 inch pad in a cross pattern and going over a 2x2 section four or five times on speed 6 on the PC. Any help would be greatly appreciated. By the way this is a OEM Honda color called Dark Amethyst Pearl. The car also has only been repainted on the passenger side and I am having these problems in various areas of the car including those that have not been repainted.
I would suggest you wipe down the area your about to work on with IPA and then get a fresh green pad if you have one if not a fresh white pad and try it out on say speed 5.5 with Menz 203 this time dont use M105. I am guessing you will get better results. Also dont use so much product instead of putting an X on the pad apply like 5 to 6 dime sized drops on the pad start the PC on 3 to spread out the product then got to like 5.5 and start correcting. If 203 goes clear before your desired results add a few more drops to the pad like 2 or 3 than go at it again until you get the results you desire. You shouldnt have to polish this like you polished your mustang GT paint since the clear is not a hard one also use less pressure while correcting. I am assuming by your name your mct96gt from MM?
