I've used the 3M Headlight Lens Restoration System on my fiance's very heavily oxidized and hazed headlights. Too bad the cordless power drill burned out in my progress (I still need to finish that too). But what would you recommend for not such heavily oxidized stuff/maintenance. I mean, depending on severity, couldn't I just use a finishing polish and a really small pad to get out minor stuff? What do you recommend after that? An LSP to seal it? I've heard Cquarts, 845, or other tough LSPs work well.
I used that exact kit on my girlfriends Scion TC headlights and sealed it with Blackfire Wet Diamond.
well you would be surprised as to how well the: Meguiars PlastX Clear Plastic Cleaner & Polish works. What i usually do is give it a quick go with the PlastX to see if that will work. I usually have a pretty good judgment without testing it first . . . . Otherwise you can use wet sand the lens with 2000 grit sand paper and then try PlastX or any other polishes you might have such as Menz SIP. It really is a case by case thing. When comes to protection i usually layer on Rejex (1-2 coats) as that stuff is really durable. I can post a couple images if that's ok otherwise no big deal.
i'll search for some and toss some of them up when i can get to my home computer. I'm using my phone right now LoL
Ive restored headlights using both a drill and a polisher. I find its much easier using a PC with 4 inch pads then a drill. I use regular Menzerna polishes (Powergloss then Powerfinish)
IMO, the most effective product I have ever used is P21S multi finish restorer. I have corrected several headlights by means of polish and wetsanding and nothing compares to this stuff. I remember a few years ago, for "shits and giggles" I tried it on a Mustang with complete amazement. I do recommend using it by hand and MF towel rather than PC. The pads just seem to dry it out much faster and is more time consuming. Btw, what I noticed, if its a GM headlight, the lenses are usually oxidized both inside and out.
Wow hey that's good to know. Everyone has their own way of doing stuff and its good to share methods among forum members. I'll look into that stuff.
