New VOC free sealant from Mark-V

I called in at the Mark-V factory earlier this week and was lucky enough to come away with a sample of their new sealant. The rep told me that it's a blend of silicone polymers and a new synthetic wax, but most importantly it's completely free of any VOC, which is becoming more and more of an issue, especially here in california. Apparently it's recommended to last at least 12 months but the guy said that they had a test panel up on the roof of the factory which is still showing protection after 18 months so their claims of durability may change. As yet it is unnamed and just about in the final stages of testing, so I was pretty excited to get some to try.

I had a quick play with it this morning, no real prep just a wash and quick clay (hood only). My first impression was that the product is incredibley easy to use, I applied it with a foam pad, let it dry for barely 2 minutes and then buffed. Removal was a breeze, one of the easiest I've come across, and it left a very glossy, deep shine. Out of curiosity I gave the hood a hose down, but unlike a lot of sealants I've tried the beading was crazy, very tight and uniform. This is a product I'll definately be testing out more, and next time I'll take the camera down and post some pics and a full write up, hopefully next week. Stay tuned.

Cool thanks for the heads up. Keep us posted for sure. I'd be all over it if they're claiming 12-18 months!

Haha, seriously! It sounds like a great new sealant to have a ball with, do you have any idea when it might be released?

In 1980 the US Government began to get involved with the solvents used, namely the volatile organic compounds (VOC) content of the petroleum based products being used. The allowable emission limits of VOC were subjected to dramatic cutbacks. Volatile organic compounds (VOCs) are organic chemical compounds that have high enough vapour pressures under normal conditions to significantly vaporize and enter the atmosphere.

Good to see they are using a complient prouct (although there is no choice.

I have no idea when they will release it, the bottle I had didn't even have a name on it. The sales guy told me that it's the first long life sealant that doesn't contain any harmful VOC on the market.

Their IP100 sealant also claims 18 months protection, we use this for some customers and it's very good, but not as easy to use as the new one they gave me

Marketing hype, its been illegal to sell solvents in any product (paint, wax, sealents, polish, etc) that contain VOC above approved limits. This is what drove the use of water-based solvents etc.

These restrictions stem from the (US) Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) limits on volatile organic compound (VOC), which are in almost all solvents.

There's a big difference between a product which is free of VOC and a product which contains VOC below a certain level. There are lots of products that are available across the country but not in california because they contain high levels of VOC, to say it's merely marketing hype is a little naive in my opinion

Got hit by a couple of rain showers this morning and I'm really liking the beading from this. I'll get some pics this week and put them up. I'll also give the rep a call and try to get a release date

Hey man, sorry for the lack of update, I realy meant to get some pics of the beading, just never seem to get round to it. We've used it on several cars now and I have to tell you it's easier to use and remove than any product I've ever used, it makes blacks and reds look really deep and wet if that makes sense. On my car the beading is still way intense even after 3 or 4 months. I will definately get some shots of the beading done this weekend

Can you explain the pros / cons of reduced VOC vs. VOC free?

What did you think of it, we're using it all the time because it is flat out the easiest to use long life product we've tried.

Only tried on a panel, but I will use it this weekend after a full prepp. How long is the durability compared to Glisten and IP100?

I hear the EPA is trying to regulate carbon dioxide - so I guess we'll all be wearing some device on our friggin noses to satisfy the enviro-"mentals".

Frankly, get rid of the Dept of Education - return the power to the states, dissolve the EPA, replace the IRS with the Fair Tax and oh yeah - repeal Obamacare!!!
