Sonax Full Effect is the best wheel cleaner out there. Period...now, I haven't tried anything else from that line though...

I would disagree. I think Beyond Steel from Surf City Garage is better. I work at Autobarn which is a big auto retailer in Australia and we got given samples. Better by far! They have a guarantee like adams so give it a try.

The one product that I do sell occasionally is the Sonax polish. For DIY dont know much customers they seem to happy with the results.

Meguiars Gold Class Leather is really greasy and does not do much.

Megs Soft Wash Gel is also weak

 

I gave it to my buddy to use on his 2011 WRX, he does not detail and only does his car. Before i got the sonax i liked using a diluted APC for the rims, and i think it worked better than GWC.

 

i know many are head over heals about fk425 but i really didnt like it much. It's ok but when i visited Pep Boys the other day and picked up Surf City Hot Rod Detailer and then used it, it was like night and day.In fact, i thought to myself, "THIS is how FK425 should be".

The 425 was streaky for me, and the "anti-static" properties wasnt working out. I actually tested it on my computer screen and TV before i used it for my car. It worked good for those so then i used it on the car and dust settled on it just like any other QD. The shine from it was ok and nothing to jump about.

Im just a bit upset because SCG Hot Rod was sitting in Pep Boys this whole time and i never gave it a thought until i read someone mentioning it on here. Never been impressed with QDs until now.

 

I agree, i have had SCG Hot Rod since it came out, just used it this past weekend. But i like FK425 too, i have two samples of it. I will just stick with the Hot Rod detailer i have in my arsenal after the FK 425 samples are used up.

 

I have used SCBS wheel cleaner before, never used it on BAKED BRAKE DUST though...I went through a bottle, and never went back to it, as it is not cheap, and found better alternatives out there...IMO AutoGlym Custom Wheel Cleaner works better, as it foams up, allowing it to stick to the surface and work. Sonax Full Effect is a gel, it is based on neautralized acid, which makes it as safe as P21S, yet it cleans years on BAKED ON DUST...Can Surf City Beyond Steal do it? Well, again, I haven't tested it on such wheels, so maybe...

 

Sonax ime can deal with thick layered dust, like think of german car just cleaned then driven for 2 weeks in hours of stop and go - just like any other wheel cleaner. Sonax cannot deal with brake dust that is no longer dust free of the surface, I think maybe "corroded dust" is what I try to say. Maybe I just see different cars but scale of 1 to 10 with 10being powerful and dangerous and 1 being water, sonax ime is a five.
But if you think about it, water on even dusty not even corroded dust can clean well agitation...and its free and ph netural. lol

 

Yes it can. And its safe for all metals. Not sure what you mean about being more expensive then sonax

being liquid SCGBS always makes me use much more to cover up a wheel, where gel wheel cleaner will cling to the surface making me use less...maybe it's just me...but even with that horrible smell I absolutely adore Sonax full effect on BMW wheels...
If SCGBS would be that great you would have seen more and more members of this forum using it...but they are using Sonax instead...

 

I like sonax, but after two weeks of not cleaning my wheels, it didn't cut it, as you can see that the product did work on the top layers of brake dust, but once it reacted, it didn't cut the rest. Agititation is still king, and i like p21s more so because it clings and hangs on while you let it dwell while you work one wheel at a time. And the smell of Sonax is more caustic than p21s. I feel more comfortable with p21s. I find i have to use more Sonax by volume than p21s.







See close up of wheel, there is still brake dust left. There isn't any wheel cleaner that is a simple spray on, dwell and rinse off product. All need agitation for heavy soiled wheels.

 

If you only got Sonax so you don't have to agitate, then it might not work for you. You still need to agitate with ANY wheel cleaner. I like Sonax better then P21S as it works on caked on dust, again you need to agitate...

 

I didn't buy Sonax for that reason. Some people tend to think these high-end wheel cleaners will work without agitation. Like i said, Agitation is king, and what makes the difference between average wheel cleaners and high-end wheels cleaners, is the speed and how well they break down metal dust.

I think P21S and Sonax are about equal in performance.

I has a nice smell and it's super easy to apply but it didn't make any difference in the appearance of the paint. It didn't look like I'd put anything on it.
