Seal and Powerlock help needed.

I'm new to detailing and I'm working on a very neglected soft black paint. After reading lots of threads I've managed to get decent results using a PC7424xp and Menzerna polishes (3 steps). Now, I can't seem to find details on how to apply the Seal and Powerlock step. Do I set the PC on 3 to spread and increase speed? If anybody can point me in the right direction I'd really appreciate it. Also, is the Seal and Powerlock the same as a wax or is that another step that should be done after the Powerlock? Thanks for the help!

 

Well I am pretty new as well but I usually apply the powerlock with an Uber Black pad on 2 or 3. I have a flex so I am not sure what that would be on a PC. The powerlock is a sealant so it's different from wax. I think it lasts much longer than a carnuba. I have been winterizing the cars and doing clay, polish and 2 coats of powerlock with a 2-3 hour dwell time between coats. Not sure that you need to wait that long though. You can top the PL with a carnuba if you want too. I would recomend collinite if you are looking for durability.

 

Good advise, but I would wait at least 8 hours between coats...12 might be better. Sealants need the cure time to cross link unlike waxes. Do not subject the car to moisture during the cure time.

 

Menzerna recommends min. 3 hours between layers.

 

I apply sealants with softest pad like uber black or lake country crimson at lowest speed. Personally I don't see a reason to go any faster since you are just spreading it on.

I agree with that. I see people saying speed 3 etc for lsp's and wonder why. You just want to spread it evenly and the slowest speed still does that.

 

OK, I put the Powerlock on and it's looking really sweet. My next dumb question... I purchased Zymol Japon thinking it would be a good final wax once I corrected all the swirls marks and problems. So far all I've used up to this point is all Menzerna products. Will putting the Zymol on increase the shine/depth to the paint and if so, what is the proper way to apply it. If another wax is recommended please advise. Thanks again everybody for your opinions and help. I'm lovin this website and forum.

 

Try it out in a small section to see if it adds to the overall look .
