so my s2000's clutch is finally going. I found it difficult to put it in reverse a week ago and now all the gears are starting to stick a little. any of you know a good place to get the entire clutch kit (OEM) for real cheap? I have been reading online that to replace it will cost upward of 800 dollars. havent starting calling around yet but need to research quick first before I call up the local guys and they start over charging me. any help from fellow s2k owners would be greatly appreciated godoman
You sure that's your clutch? you should be able to roll through the gears with the car off without clutching it. if it's still tough at that point you might check elsewhere.
How many miles do you have? When was the last time you change your clutch fluid? I changed the gear oil on my maxima to amsoil and it shifts so nice now ... really nice improvement. I just need an STS 'cause the throws are so long.
Well it could be the clutch or it could need a fluid change. To check if it is the clutch get going around 20mph put the car in 4th and floor it. If the revs climb but you really don't accelerate likely the clutch, if it doesn't could need a fluid swap. Also do a redline shift between 1 and 2... On my car it slips pretty good 99% of the time and is now starting to do that on a 2/3 Clutches are not cheap the S2ks... I will going with a Science of Speed Street set-up over the winter combined with a AP1 S2k flywheel. Doing the work myself will still cost about 800 in parts... If it is fluid save yourself the trouble of finding a fluid and just get the Honda MTF fluid. It is the best fluid I have found and made a slight difference in shifting on my car. You can also lubricate the shifter too, they tend to get dry over time and some of the early AP2 cars suffered from water getting in the shifter box because of a seal location issue during install, washing grease and promoting corrosion in the shifter box. There is a TSB out for it and I might be able to dig it up for you. If the car is an AP2 you can as a little bonus swap out the clutch slave cylinder with an AP1 slave. This removes the clutch delay that occurs during shifting which leads to more wear on the AP2 clutches. Honda is believed to have done that to help protect the differential on the car but if you are a good manual driver it becomes a burden...
Sounds more like your slave cylinder isn't disengaging the clutch... but I have also seen fingers break and do the same thing...
the car still excellerates just fine. I have no issue with it picking up and going. the stress is when I park some place and I am having alot of issues trying to go in reverse and it will not pop easily, causing mass fear that I will be stuck cause I cant pull out. anyone in here tell me how to go about checking the fluid for the clutch. I am going to go around online looking it up to see if it is something I can do on my own instead of taking to a shop. hope it is just an issue with clutch fluid. that would be a relief godoman
It is probably your clutch slave, If the car is accelerating without the clutch slipping then your clutch is fine How many miles does your car have on the current clutch?
Hondas have always been notorious for having a little trouble going into reverse. Start with the easy fixes first: Bleed the system Slave Cylinder check is your clutch pedal sticky at all or does it take a longer then usual to come off the floor when shifting at all? Change your fluid if none of those fix things then proceed . . . . . . it could very well me synchro's as well. If you replace your clutch i would get a slightly beefier one but that is just me.
ok, well I went to my friend who is a mechanic after talking with all of you online. I went out and bought some clutch fluid (dot 4 to be exact) and then went to the friends hose. we had to lift up the left side of the s2k and bleed out the clutch fluid. he could tell that I had not done it in a long time because the fluid was coming out dark and when it goes in is crystal clear like water. all the preasure came back in the clutch like the first day I bought it. he told me that if the clutch loses preasure again then I will have to replace the master cyl or something like that. located right next to the break line fluid. so yeah, it was a fun day. only took an hour to get it all fixed. thanks again for all the help and great feedback. as always you guys have the best answers to my horrible questions godoman
